Alliances

Hello Community,

I am wondering why I can't form an alliance. I am using the 1.4 version.
On the diplomacy screen I only have the option between "make peace" or "attack.." (might not be the right terms, cause I am playing in German).

But there is no option to ask an alien race for an alliance.
I have researched alliances and I am already pretty far developed. Futhermore there is no allaince in the galaxy at all, though its inhabited by 9 species.

Can anyone tell me why it's that way?

And btw: GC II is a great game..big up to the developers.

Greetings from Berlin/Germany.

In order to make an alliance with an alien race, your relationship with them needs to be "Close." Getting from Friendly to Close is a real pain in the ass, so here are some tips:

1. Trade is your friend. The more the AI depends on trade with you economically, the more they'll like you.

2. A strong military will make other nations take you more seriously.

3. Friendships appreciate with age - have good relations with an alien race long enough, and you'll get a diplomacy bonus for your historic friendship.

Thanks 4 the quick response Arilias.

One more thing:

Is it possible to convince minor races to join your empire? Is an alliance a help or even a prerequisite for that undertaking? What can I do to persuade them 2 join my empire?

Invade them

While you may be able to form an alliance with a minor, it is probably not advisable.

They are very likely to get in a war with at least one other major race. And when that happens you will be dragged into it (unless you break the alliance at that point). And sometimes when one major declares war on a minor, one or two join the fun. You could end up being at war with several at once as well.

And other than help in a war, or avoiding a war with someone, there is really no reason to form an alliance.

And in any case, an alliance does not make them a part of your empire.
To make that happen, the only answer is what Kryo suggested (since minors won't culture flip).

I understand I wasted considerable resources in order to achieve a cultural flip of a minor. So invading them seems to be the only option...

Is there a connection between ethical alignment (mine is evil) and the probability to let an opponent's planet join your empire?

In my recent game there wasn't one planet changing side, though I invested a lot in influence (starbases, etc.).

Thanks Moosetek for the hint concerning the alliances with minors.

One other thing:
Is there somewhere an overview which galactic improvements and super projects pay off for the whole empire and which are only benefiting the planet they have been built upon?

Danke!

Nope. Culture-flipping is based on having overwhelming culture strength on the planet (the ratio must be at least 4.0). The enemy may have built a re-education center (or be a minor) which prevents the planet from flipping, or it may have a loyalty bonus (Yor have a huge natural one) which just makes it less likely to flip. Other than that, it's just a matter of flooding it with influence and waiting.

Trade googs are empire wide. Galactic acheivements are planet only.

For more information on planetary improvements, super projects, galactic achievements, and trade goods... see the
Wiki site.

Thanks..good help that site...but there are some galactic achievments effecting the whole empire...

I just tried to cancel my alliance with two minor races but I can't find the option to do so...is there one, or do I just have to attack them (and maybe losing some of my reputation?)
