Now then....

2:3-5 -- God wants us to diligently seek after His wisdom and His ways. How do we do this? By reading the Bible faithfully and praying for Him to reveal His will for us individually. You can say you're a Christian and try to live a Godly life, but if you're not reading the Bible and praying, you aren't going to learn a whole lot, and your spiritual growth will be stunted.

2:10-11 -- Learning wisdom is not something that's simply an academic exercise in the brain. Personally, this hits home for me because I engage in a lot of studies that are interesting but don't really matter in the long run. I mean, it really isn't going to improve my life if I know how to tell a northern dusky salamander from a seal salamander. But God's wisdom, on the other hand, is something that will make your life much easier if you learn what it is and follow it.

2:16, 18 -- I think it's safe to say that every man struggles with lust. It's one of the most powerful temptations out there because it runs right along with how our physical bodies are wired. But, regardless of the seeming attractiveness of an individual moment, it must be remembered that lust is very damaging. The more you engage in it, the deader your spiritual walk becomes.

1:8-9; 2:1, 5; 3:1-2; 4:1-2 -- At the beginning of chapters 2-4 and near the beginning of chapter 1, Solomon basically says, "Look, this is really important. I'm not just telling you all this stuff because it's cool or because I like to hear myself talk. And there isn't any point in you listening to all of this unless you plan on remembering them and following them." I think a lot of people read the Bible but don't really have any intention of doing what it says, like the man in James who looks into a mirror and then forgets what he looks like.

4:23 -- Cedar Springs Christian Store's slogan is, "What goes into the mind comes out in a life." That's very true. We have to watch closely over our hearts and regulate what we allow to go in there. For example, don't put yourself in a situation where people are acting sinfully unless you know for sure that you're strong enough to avoid succumbing to the temptation yourself.
