Re-populate algorithm

Wave good bye to that weak AI economy...

Currently after wars the AI's planets are often weak economically. The reason for this is they have so low population on their planets due to conquest ie remnants of the troop transport population living on the world or the last survivors of an invasion.

What i'd like to see is when an AI is at peace it will ferry population from it's larger population worlds eg 5 billion plus to the lower pop worlds eg 800million or less.

These worlds can take an eternity to recover population and need serious help the max pop growth per turn doesn't start until there are about 2.5 billion on a planet. There is a huge difference in how much money you make from a planet each turn dependant on how big its population is.

The Korath are the biggest losers because of this due to there spore ship. Once invaded a spore planet will only have 5 million people to get to the magic 2.5 billion mark takes it an eternity (many years of gamplay (I haven't done the math but it's a long time). This means having a lot of very economic poor planets for a long time (not a good idea).

Don't know how long this will take to program but i feel it is highly needed and should be introduced in DA.

Why not? The worlds are all so closely connected, it doesn't make a lot of sense that the only commodity that isn't automatically transported between them is people.

But you do realize that you can manually ferry people yourself, right? Just take a Transport to a planet you own and land it, then the people will be part of that planet's population. Then you can Launch the Transport with just one unit of people on board and go back to a mature planet and fill it up again.

I make my Transports pretty darned fast, but if you don't usually, you might want to make a special "Shuttle" version for this purpose. (If you don't have a special version, you might still want to rename a Transport you have emptied as "Shuttle" or something, so you don't accidentally grab it and waste time shipping it back to the front lines.)

I think he meant that he wants the AI to do exactly what you described, which is what any human player would do

Yeah, he meant that the AI should do that. Very good idea methinks.

In my latest beta2b game i've seen the Korath build transports although i'm not sure they built it for repopulation purposes. If there not building it for this purpose they shouldn't really be buiding transports when they have spore ships tbh.

I think the higher difficulty levels fully compensate for this issue.

Also if you introduced this repopulation idea to the AI then it would have serious consequences.

Transports that could be used for further conquest, would instead be diverted to repopulate.

Repopulated planets could be retaken and thus that potential invading army would be wasted in a disadvantageous defence.

Thats why I said the AI's should do it when at peace. Perhaps they could do it on relatively safe from invasion colonies though. Ultimately they could easily just build more transports.

I think a lot of good players repopulate low population planets theres no reason why the AI shouldn't under certain circumstances.

Ah yes you did, my bad.

Yes when at peace and if the parent planet reaches maximum population and or has morale issues then yes, by all means move the population on somewhare else.
