Proverbs 3

v. 3-4 -- These verses remind me of Job. God said to the Devil, "There is no one on earth like [Job]; he is blameless and upright." (NIV) Now this passage says that God will hold us in "high esteem" if we treasure mercy and truth. Can you imagine the almighty God of the universe talking about how wonderful YOU are? I think that would be pretty cool.

v. 5-6 -- This is so basic, but it's also so obvious in my life. There have been so many times when God has shown me the truth of this passage. There have been times when I've gone my own way, thinking I knew how to make myself happy, only to find that it didn't work and I was miserable. And there have been times when I've gone against my own way, assuming that God had a better way even if I didn't understand it, and I ended up in a very happy place.

v. 9-10 -- This is very relevant to me right now, in a funny sort of way. See, whenever I get paid each week at work, I total up my salary and my tips for that week and then tithe 10% based on that total. Well, I was never able to get my paycheck last week, which means I'll be picking up two checks today. That means I'll have double the tithe money to give to God, and it just so happens that I only have like $3 now. In other words, most of the money I make at work tonight I won't be able to keep.... which can get frustrating. But I know that it's the right thing to do, and I know that God will bless me for it :-)

v. 19-20 -- God created the universe "by understanding". In other words, God is very smart and knew what He was doing when He created things. Example: The eastern newt (a kind of salamander) is a very strange creature. It lays its eggs in the water, and the babies that hatch out of them are completely aquatic. They breathe with gills, and they can only live in water. Then, at a certain pont, they lose their gills and develop land. At that point, they become completely terrestrial like a lizard. Then, when they reach maturity, they develop the ability to absorb oxygen from water through their skin.... and they go back to being 100% aquatic. But, strangely enough, they don't lose their lungs. So, even though they never leave the water, they could survive on land if they had to. Well, if their pond dries up, that's exactly what happens. They just become terrestrial and start using their lungs again. Now I think it's pretty smart to be able to create a creature that can do all that.

v. 25-26 -- I know a lot of Christians who like to worry. Whenever there's a chance of something bad happening, they fret and get all scared about it. But we really shouldn't be like that. God is our safety and our protection. There's no reason to worry about the future because it's all in His hands.... and we are His people.
