It's the Smell

Junkie poem--social/political

we can find each
other
us junkies
we travel dark roads and strange
nights
pick up different
scents
we smell different
cops can smell us
they know
they know we get sick and they
know how to fuck us
anytime they want
people in the world
they sense us
maybe not smell us
like we can them
they have vanilla scents and
clean
clothes
all seven days
they smell
clean
untouched
like they get washed everyday
and don’t suck dirty cocks
to stay well
they just sense us
like the little add-ups
same shirt different lie
same pants
hair cut a little off schedule
trouble at home
always a problem
always an excuse
but we learn to stay away
we find each other
by smell
fear always stinks
bad

the animalistic instincts provoked by addiction are powerful ... and they do remain, as you describe, exclusive somehow to the desperation of addiction itself. i loved this. thankyou.
