IconDeveloper Help - Alpha issues

Hi all, I'm having some trouble with IconDeveloper. I am attempting to create an icon with a transparent background, but IconDeveloper always seems to turn the background from transparent to black. Here is an example:

As you can see, with the icon in IconDeveloper, it seems to recognize the transparency just fine. Now here is what things look like after saving the .ico and viewing it in Windows:

As you can see here, there is a black border where the transparency should be. If anyone has some advice on this, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I get shadow at the larger sizes with black on smaller whether I use IconDeveloper or drop the png in AveIconifier2

Hi Bichur,

Do you know if this is a known issue with the program, or is there a way around this?

I am using XP Service Pack 2, if that is of any help.

Okay I'm not sure what you're doing, but here's what I did. I started a 256x256 image in paint.net. Step 1 Background Layer I made 100% clear(just select all and then delete). Step 2 I added a new layer with my graphic image. Step 3 I then saved it as a png file. Step 4 I then started Icon Developer and selected Convert image to icon. Step 5 I selected okay on the select icon format screen. Step 6 I then selected 128 x 128 Windows XP format in the format pane on the left(this will cause the icon in the preview screen to sharpen, you probably missed this step). Step 7 I then did a save as and gave my test icon a name. Step 8 I tested the icons image in Windows all clear areas were transparent. If you skip Step 6 the icon won't be rendered properly. That should cover it.

If you are viewing the icon in Explorer, do not trust what you see. Explorer just picks the last image in the icon and displays it. It will look OK (if the icon is OK) if you use the icon to customize a folder or file type or whatever.

take your icon and put it on Object Dock - see how it looks when you zoom
