A few questions regarding the backstory(the precursors)

About The Precursors:

From the few snippets I hear about this former advanced civilization, the more they sound like real scumbags to me. They ruthlessly enslaved the Torians, in the latest AAR Frogboy made you could choose to use one of their artifacts you find that feeds off of sacrifices, and I'm sure there is more. Am I getting the right feel for them? Obviously I've only seen a few things about them not having played the game yet myself, so I might be missing their large charitable donations they leave to the Salvation Army. :D

Also, do events or something else cause them to come back as one of the minor/associate races? What kinds of things would trigger that, and how advanced would their empire start out as?

Maybe they are related to the Great Old Ones of Lovecraftian lore ? :d ;)

it was the Drengin Empire who enslaved the Torians, and it has been hinted that the Yor were created by the precursors and that perhaps they either wiped out the precursors or drove them out of this galaxy.

And about finding the artifacts and such, an empire as large as the precursor one would not be able to hide all evidence of its existance so finding a few ships here and there would be likely as well as the odd peice of technology.

Also they have also hinted about random events such as a highly advanced alien race which could invade the galaxy which would set forth certain conditions that would need all the races to band together to fight off the invasion and save there civilizations, which would be quite fun as long as the nemesis was very difficult to beat and so even winning would cost all sides dearly.

it'd be interresting to have a race like the shadows from babylon 5, who would entice the races to go to war with another, giving them ships and money to fund it etc. would add even more depth to the game.

don't forget just because the artifacts and yor are dangerous to the newer races doesn't mean the precursors meant for them to be. imagine a car in medievel times: backing over people, filled with colorful poisons, filling enclosed spaces with carbon monoxide, whirring blades + unattentive curious people, playing with the +/- connections on the battery...

Its quite possible for you to play like the Shadows as well. Supplying money, ships, techs, even planets to another race in exchange for them doing your dirty work.

i know ive done it, but i mean to truely have a super race come into the galaxy and play the strings, it'd be a decent subplot if it was implemented properly.

I like the idea of playing Mr. Arms Dealer for both sides to weaken them over time. Backroom diplomacy at its worst.
