Show off your ship designs 2007!

Ship designs from around the world!

Last year, we had a thread in which people showed off some of the great ship designs they created with Galactic Civilizations II.

With the expansion pack adding so many new components and so much free form support, we'd love to see the cool things players create.

The cool thing in the expansion pack is now you can save your creations as templates and then assign the computer players to make use of those ships in various roles. Combined with the capability of creating your own custom opponents, now you can create your own sci-fi universe within GalCiv without modding.

Basically yes. I tried to show impact damage by torquing/twisting, bending, adjusting the original design. I'm not saying that this is revolutionary or anything, I just have'nt seen anyone else do it yet. I guess if I built a design from the beginning to be damaged/impacted it would be more impressive.

try it.. it wont hurt to try showing a ship damaged..... what about a damaged base? as well?

PubMaster, i love that Rum Runner, damn nice looking ship!

Nice ships as always, PubMaster. I like the torquing on the fuselage - building a decent ship and then "breaking" it. I think that you should go all out on collision damage, though. Now that you've planted the seed, I may try for a totally ruined, barely-functional wreck.

One of the things that I have wanted to do was battle damage or an asteroid collision. What do you guys think?

the bending of the hull works; maybe in addition to extra pieces floating aroudn, add a few more asteroid pieces in smaller sizes to show the asteroid breaking up. throw the ship into a battle so it gets some damage, and you've got yourself some fire, smoke and electrical arcs to finish it up. cool idea.

...i'm almost done putting final touches on my first ship pack inspired by star trek/ federation ships (yes, been done before, but more options never hurt).

Thanks guys! Nice looking ships to you too TG! I really like the small, large, and huge ones!

I'm a total noob, how do I open GalCiv in window mode?

(Ships will come soon...maybe.) Please tell me ASAP, I want to share my latest creations, the Birmingham class dreadnaught, F-10 Death Hawk, and Patton Class frigate.

go into options and click on the windows mode button

Thanks for the idea of the in game damage. OK... here is another damged ship. You might call it recently deseased. A little more work went into this one. What do you guys think?

I wanted to spice it up with a bit of fiction but I am not that creative so here it is.

That is insanely cool. Are those bolts from taking it into combat or is that something from a mod?

Thanks! I like it and I am glad you do too. This is from in game combat. I was in Battle of the gods mode and you have to get it just right. I was impatient and did not want to play a whole game for a few screen shots so I just attacked everyone until the damaged graphics came on. The first game I found out that I had to protect my home planet too. The second game I went overboard and lost it before I could take a screen shot of it. Hehe.

Now that looks expensive! I hope the insurance covers that sort of damage!
(I'm sure it'll buff out no problem though   )

that looks great PubMaster! i'm glad the idea worked. maybe with some photoshopping it'd even be possible to put a ship attacking it into the picture... meh, like you said, too much work for a screenshot (and this is coming from a photoshop veteran).

i haven't even been playing the game recently... just working on getting my ships to look just right. man, being a perfectionist kinda sucks.

Pub, TG - Kenwebb if you happen to see this post - how do you all manage to put out so many elaborate ship designs so frequently?
Eh, I don't really post that often. Every time I play a game through I just try to make the shipyard entries cohesive, and then when I'm done I upload. I think I've only done 4 sets now, all with Kryo's mod, so they're not metaverse safe.

Hehe, dystopic, I got nothing on Kenwebb. But thank you for including me with these guys. The shear quantity and quality of kenwebbs designs are very impressive. Also I haven't done a concerted effort for fleet packs. I love the idea of them and like what I see but not sure how to go about organizing them in that way, not to mention the conformity/ likeness between the designs that make them look like fleets.

I think I have Adult A.D.D. by the way. When I go into designing I may have an overall (very basic)idea of what I want to do but I normally end up somewhere else. I guess thats why I have a hard time with asymetrical designs. If I get the time this weekend I think I try to upload some more designs and will try to arrange the same looking ships together to make it easier to create fleets from them.

The other problem I have recently realized is that I have just been designing with terran hulls. Which forces anyone that downloads them to change the file names to get them to work for other races. Sorry.

However after my last ship pack and their subsequent replys I have got them all as templates and I have ID'd them as what mod is required or whether they are metaverse compliant. (and the huge freighter is labeled with a Warning! due to it's high extras content.)

Hey Kryo,
On your next update to you mod could you include a spherical hard point set? I love the formation and offsets but a sphere would be great for clouds of debris.

Now that I got totally off subject (I told you about the A.D.D.) I will now fight DC traffic on the way to the bar. Cheers!

But before I go I will answer your question. I design stuff that I like and when I have a few built up I put them together and post them. No real plans for the most part. The exception is what you see with the ship with the broken back. I did that a while back but I remembered how I put it together and figured that would work well with the idea of damage. Then I got carried away like always do and there you go. A dead ship.

Like I said before I am glad you guys like them.

heh ok fair enough. i've had more time lately myself, and recently i've been going overboard with Star Trek/Federation-like ship designs. i've talked about it enough, so i decided to take a screen shot. call it a sneak preview if you will. i'll upload these sometime this weekend.

and befpre i get flamed by any uber-trekies, these are Federation-inspired, mmmkay?

Here's some of my ships for the Earth Federation. (you might know them from my latest AAr.):

first, the F-10 Death Hawk.

Birmingham Class Dreadnaught. (I didn't make this in my AAR game, I made it in a Battle of The Gods match.)

Here's a close-up on the Birmingham. For better or worse, we won't get carriers in GC for a long time, I put "fighters" on it, ready to "launch" at a moment's notice.
