Interesting...and what does the boy become when he grows up? Something here reminds me of that old movie Failsafe(or was it the book?) when the pilot after nuking New York says (before killing himself) I am the Matador...

For some reason, the 'boy' in this could have been a young soldier, sent away to carry a political burden without any knowledge of what it meant.

There is a poignancy to this that is very striking...
