Just to let everyone new know.
The web site it a list of ships, technologies, improvements and starbase modules created directly from the GalCiv data files.
Lots of useful information.

Great site. I alt-tab between the tech/research tree page on your site and the game when faced with a tough decision. Being able to "drill down" to the info regarding a specific tech is wonderful.

Can we see Javascout's info transferred to an in game civilopedia function?

Visiting JavaScout's site is what convinced me to take a chance on Galciv. There is great stuff there

Personally, while I see the benefit of this website, I try not to look at it when I'm playing. I LIKE not knowing for sure what I have to research to get what I want down the road... It makes it feel more like I'm really researching into the unknown. Sure, it's more inefficient, but I'm not playing just to win. I'm playing to have a good time.

What do you use to generate the website?

I imagine it'd be handy to be able to run this on my own machine locally so that

1. I wouldn't have to be connected to the net to browse it.
2. I wouldn't waste your bandwidth repeatedly going to the same stuff.
3. The information would be tailored to what I have installed.

Yes, but there should be an online civilopedia because it would be nice to know the "levels" of different techs when you are trying to trade them (and I do not see any hyperlinks in the trade screen or any other way of finding out, short of memorization). Ditto with where planets are, what they have, etc. I've mentioned this before, as have others.

I have no plans to release the java program and utilities I use to create my web pages.
I just don't have time to support it.

Well, I don't know much about Java, but isn't it possible, to download the whole page, so that you could look on it offline? When I browse the site and then go offline I can look on all pages I've visited. Isn't it possible to "download" an "visit-all-sites" which then could be looked at offline? If not then not. just wanted to ask.

In internet explorer you can have favourite sites. (You all know that but that's were I got to start from) Just add the site to your favourites, then go to the favourites menu select the site and right-click on it. There should be an option 'Make available off-line' and guess what that does ...

doesn't that only capture the first page?

i think there are some problems that will copy an entire site

There are various free utilities you can use to make perfect local versions of a site with java scripts and the like intact. I did it with javascout's excellent site (you rock) and put it on my PDA. It works great, though it would be a lot more efficient on the small screen if it didn't have the frames navigation. (btw, it's a pocketpc with a high-res screen, so I don't know if it would look clear enough to use on a Palm.) I'm thinking about modifying the navigation to make it more pda friendly, and would be happy to post it if here were agreeable to it.

I also put the tech tree on it, but that thing is just too big to navigate on a pda. Hell, it's almost too big to navigate on paper

With the two large GalCiv manuals I am close to maxxing out my disc allocation.
If the manuals are made available through another channel I will look at taking any submission.

Why can't I see anything on your site? When I click on it all I get is blank screen under the big picture.
