While we're chit chatting a game situation.

Ok, I'm playing a small galaxy with all sub normal opponents ( I know, I'm a wimp ). I am trying to be a trading guy which isn't that good on a small world IMHO but is interesting. The game is going as planned ( which is why I'm trying on the lower levels before getting my lunch eaten by stonger guys )but one thing has me wondering.

I have been overwhelmingly a good guy. I am only behind the two minors and the Alterians in this catagory.

OK, ONE time I found myself in this situation. I was on the verge of brokeness ( you know, real life ) and I discovered one more planet I could colonize. I rush bought my last colony ship but my scout saw that the Carinoids were going to beat me to it.

My only other planetary option at that point was a system I eventually wanted to colonize anyway which had a 14 and a 13 planet. I went there instead. Once I tried to colonize the 14 I ran into an event ( which I can't remember or find the exact event ) which either harshly penalized production, mildly penalized it or moderately helped it.

Normally I would have chosen the good option but since this was a struggling colony I couldn't even in good conscience choose the neutral option. I made my first evil decision. GASP.

Well, the Drengins loved me and have ever since ( it's been a while ) and the Alterians HATE me. It's like I killed their dog or something. It's unreal. I'm still a relatively good guy.

They are by far the weakest race ( facing extinction quite frankly ) and play a minimal part in galactic events but I WANT them to improve themselves. I want to help them better themselves but since they hate me it's hard to give them weapons to kill me with.

What would you do? What do you think? Am I that evil?? What about Naomi??

Some of the events are more weighty than others, but it may be your military ranking in this case. If you're really behind the other races technologically, if you're still neutral, the good races will still pick on you.

To improve relations, you can increase your trade with them, and buy ships from other races to increase your military rank, and keep being good. I generally try to buy from the one that is bullying me so that I can increase my military while lowering theirs. :)

Personnally I hate bugs, so when I get the random event with the curvy tower made of bug, I get the Raid can out and all the colonist are happy. That's the lenght you have to go through to maintain morale.... LOL

Hehe,

It's definately not my military. It's still early but I lead in that catagory and like I said, they're really close to being wiped out already. I know that the events are weighted differently but I am still on the good side of neutral. Bullying me would be suicide for them so they don't try that. They just hate me.

I'm definately not complaining or calling this a ahem, bug. I'm playing sub normal iq guys and truthfully I've played humans who fixate on minor game events. They too would stubbornly refuse all assistance because way back at the beginning of the game you colonized a planet they wanted before they could. I've even won a game once because one guy got so mad at another guy that he spendt all his resources wiping both of them out. By the time he died, I'd never had a battle and it was simply mop up from there which we didn't bother with.

I guess what I'm saying is, I know that AI. :)

I pointed it out because I thought it was funny. Anyway, now that I've woken up ( price I pay for being a third shifter ) I'm going to finish playing this game out. I am off to a smashing start which isn't surprising but really I'm more concerned with really concentrating on the trade aspects than winning. It could come back to haunt me.
