ATT: BETA TESTER UPGRADING

If you have the beta of GalCiv, you will need to uninstall the beta before updating to the 1.01 version of GalCiv. We want to avoid issues where some beta file is still floating around.

This is an ongoing problem. I was working with T-Man a while ago to try and fix it, but nothing seems to have worked. I did a fresh install of SDCentral, with no change. It also seems like uninstalling SDCentral does NOT remove any registry entries. When I re-installed, all of the same information was still present.

I deleted all of the ComponentManager Registry keys after uninstalling SDCentral. I have now re-installed and re-registered through the SDC application, and Galciv DOES appear. Perhaps the uninstall should be set to remove ALL CM registry keys as well as the ones that it currently deletes.

Brad's message seems to indicate that beta-testers should uninstall the beta in any event, but you definitely MUST uninstall the beta if you have modified any files as a beta tester.

I also lost the Galciv installation option, but I just had to re-register (re-entered my serial number) to get it to show up.

'Cept for getting my ass whupped, it's all peachy, now.

End transmission.

I have the same problem as David Schapira.

When I fire up Stardock Central, it comes up with a "Create Stardock Net" account. I fill in everything, click submit, and instantaneously it says, "Fails to Update Account Information". There is no sign of anything having gone over the net. If I "skip", I get a complaint that without logging in, I can't do anything.

If I then "skip", I get to the main Stardock Central page. If I go to Tools/Register Products and enter my serial number (for GC, not Drengin.Net) when I hit OK, I get an hourglass which stays on the screen for as many minutes as I care to watch. This is true for both Atlanta and California servers.

Reinstalling SDC doesn't wipe the component keys, but if I do it by hand and reinstall, nothing changes.

Can anyone help me?

I actually wiped out the the whole Stardock branch of the registry not just the CM parts. Reinstalled rc1 of sdcentral. After that it was happy.

David-
The problem seems to have been solved (at least for me) on another thread. The problem was that the proxy configuration in SDC is not right. It uses whatever Internet Explorer is set to use, seemingly irrespective of what the SDC configuration is.

Uhm, is there still a problem. I'm not much on messing with the registry - what do we need to do here to get this fixed? Thanks.

Here's what I did for what's it's worth:

1) I uninstalled GalCiv from SDCentral.
2) I went to Add/Remove programs and removed SDCentral
3) I downloaded the new SDCentral.
4) Downloaded GalCiv.

That worked for me.

If that doesn't work for you, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]
