Manufacturing and Research Capacity

Two questions:
1) What determines the manufacturing capacity of a planet? (Obviously things like Manufacturing Center and Power Plant add a percentage to manufacturing capacity, but what determines the base capacity? Population? Planet Quality? Something else?)

2) Is there any way to see the manufacturing capacity of a planet? (I know that if I set spending to 100%, I can then go to a planet and figure out the capacity, but I was wondering if there was an easier way)

#1, Production is based on planet class, population and morale. That base production is increased by social project, starbases and research.

#2, It depends, if your in space, use the minimap. If you want to compare, go to planet list and diplay by name or production.
