Colonizing worlds?

Okay, when I ask this keep in mind that I only got to play the game for a total (including customizing my race and setting options) of maybe 20 minutes today before I had to come to work. :(

But, in that time, I got my colony ship to an orangish-looking star (it was named Wardell! :) ) hoping to colonize it. Only I didn't see any way to do so. Also, when I clicked on the star I didn't see any planets listed in the planets list. Now, what I'm assuming (since this was the only star I had time to reach before I had to quit playing) is that this star simply had no planets whatsoever orbiting around it. Is this possible?

Regardless, is there anything special you have to do to colonize a planet? I'm assuming you just run your colony ship into the star and it will give you the option. True? :)

Just wanting to know as I pass the time until I get to go back home and play more. :)

Just move your colony ship into the star, then you should see a pop up to rename the system. Then move your mouse over planet on the right side of the screen, you should then see a roll over of a small colony ship. Then just click on the planet you want.

From what you typed, that star had no worlds in orbit.

Okay, just checking. Thanks, guys. I did try moving my colony ship into the star, but it wouldn't go there.

I'd moved my survey ship there first, but when it didn't show me anything I thought perhaps it was just because it was a survey ship and I actually needed a colony ship there.

Good to know I just had rotten luck with the star nearest me and not that I had no clue what I was doing. :)
