Newbie question

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find it in past posts. Why can't I have more than 20,000 $? What am I doing wrong?

You can, but there is an income penalty at that point to discourage cash hoarding. If you want to have more than 20k in reserve, you need to increase your income significantly to get over the hump caused by that penalty.

It really would depend on how your income and expenses currently stand. Until you can get enough population and econ bonuses to get over the hump, I'd say just keep your reserves under 20k by buying stuff.
