Why are the Dread Lords in my game?

I just got GalCiv II Dark Avatar the other day... so far I'm loving it but...

I started playing a sandbox game on the Milky Way map with Normal scenario. I made sure to turn off Mega Events because I'm too much of a newb to handle them yet.

So about 2 hours into the game, the Dread Lords declare war on me and start systematically destroying me. Their homeworld is nowhere to be seen but I sure saw their fleets... Of course I can't really do much because their ships do about 230 damage, while mine do about 6 at most, if in a fleet...

So the 2 hours I've put in have been totally ruined, and I'm not sure why...

I was pretty much DOMINATING every area, until I started being raped without having the ability to do anything about it...

Can someone shed some light on this?

If mega-events were off and you weren't playing the "Dread Lords on Parade" scenario that shouldn't happen. Are you updated to 1.5X?

Well I don't have Dark Avatar yet but that sounds pretty messed up... The devs might want to read this...

Yes I did update to whatever was latest in the Stardock Central application.

Sure enough, I just now started another game, even turned off minor civilization, Normal Scenario and Milky Way map, Mega Events off - played about 80 turns and the Dread Lords now appear in the quarterly report.

Here are my game settings:

No matter how many games I start with these settingsm the Dread Lords will always appear at random intervals during the game. It's really annoying!

Could it be the map you're using? I've never used a custom so I don't know, but are minors pre-specified on custom maps?

I did I quick check and I figured out the reason for your problem. The Milkyway custom map has the dreadlords already placed on it, so no matter what you do if you play that custom map the dreadlords will be in it.

Thank you, kind sir!

This crap wasted a lot of my time

It would have been nice if it had been mentioned anywhere...
