Vista with IconPackager...how buggy it is...

So I read around and the Stardock site and read some of the posts and was lead to believe that IconPackager was working fine with Vista. I decided to purchase it and what a waste of money it was. It's so damn buggy so far and I hope an updated version comes out again.

One of the biggest bugs I have seen so far is that if you revert back to the Windows default icons most of your stock icons will look like crap or the wrong icon will be displayed.

Examples...
When going back to default icons.
The Run and Search icons on the start menu are the wrong resolution and the locations IP sets for them is wrong. The correcrt file where the right icons are stored is imageres.dll. IP sets it up with some other file and the icons look all blocky.

The DVD/CD drive icons are all wrong unless you want to use the Win95 or so icons.
The personal folder "My Documents" icon is set incorrectly.
The shortcut overlay is wrong unless once again you like how it looked in Win95.
Some other stuff I can't think of right now.

General use...
The icons for Music, Video, Favorites, and some other personal folders can not be set to a custom icon.

Control Panel icon does not change on the start menu but it does if you have it displayed on desktop.

Bunch of other stuff I can not think of at this moment since I am so fustrated from purchasing this software and then taking so much time to go the default settings right.

Looking forward to an updated version with lots less bugs.

From what I see here, it's still in beta, so of course there are going to be some bugs.

Can you confirm which version of IP you have installed?

Before buying software (anywhere and whatever), you should read the "fine print", before bitching...

BETA means that the program still has bugs (some known, some unknown) and it's a common rule not to install on a "main" system...

You can't be lead to "think" that BETA software just works fine with Vista UNLESS it is explicity STATED "to be working" or "designed for Vista"...

The "crap" about Windows Xp at its beginning didn't teach you anything at all about an OS just released (specially Microsoft but sometimes Apple too)...?

Now, if you want Iconpackager to fully work on Vista, you will have to wait for the final release...and next time (unless you're willing to deal with bugs), wait for the final release of a program before buying...it will save you time and it will keep you from bitching against people who are already doing an awesome job since the first version of their software...

And no, I don't work for Stardock...

So I decided to reformat my machine so then I reinstalled IP and it seems to be working much better. The default icons are picked up correctly and most of the user folders can be changed. The version of IP that was installed after the reformat was the same as before so I don't know why it would be so different. I wonder if it was because I had the trial version on first?

Who knows but all seems to working much better.
