What does this mean?

I have noticed in this version that several colonised stars, mainly Minor Races, display a Skull and Crossbones part way through a game. One of my Stars has also started displaying this symbol as well. What does it mean, and do I need to deal with it somehow?

Thanks. However, if I remember correctly, I owned those sectors. Does that mean that my Colony is going to revolt to me :notsure:

I wondered if it might have something to do with Pirates.

I've seen skulls on planets with moral close to 100%. Granted, at one time it was low but shouldnt the skull vanish after moral hits 50+?

the influence game can turn very quickly.. I always have the sector ownership turned on. one game I hade 60% blue.. two turns later I only had 30% blue.

At the time my colony showed the symbol, it was in the midst of my empire and I had 89% influence according to the last game report, about 2 turns prior.

Building things like the news network and propaganda center on the planet with the skull can help avoid its defection. Also, starbases in the sector with culural improvements.

But, there is something strange about morale. You would think that a planet with decent morale would not be in danger of defecting, but I've gotten messages to that effect regarding planets whose morale was quite healthy. I don't know what is happening there.

Rebellion (forming a new minor civ) depends on morale. Defection (leaving for an existing civ) depends on culture. Both are partially reduced by propaganda.

Thanks AM. However, in that case, I wish cultural allegience were displayed somewhere also, since I never know that a planet is in danger of defecting until I get a warning message. By then, it's often too late to start building news netwroks/propaganda centers.

it might be nice on the planet list if the skull and cossbones and the unhappy face would show up with the planets

Influence and morale are two unrelated things in GalCiv. The skull and crossbones is a warning that another race is influencing your people to where they associate themselves more with the other race than with your empire. A planet that is using the Yor's brand of Jeans and fast food places could be completely content, but just Terran in spirit. Bad morale is just general unhappiness, and is shown witha red frowning face.

I like midnight louie's idea. Any chance?

Don't forget that just owning a sector (turns blue) is not enough to cause cultural defections. You need to totally dominate the sector (a few hundred cultural points above the rivals) and vice versa. Use the icon on the top right of the main screen to check. You should always keep an eye on your planets in sectors you don't control.
