Why is SDC showing DA is updated when it isn't?

Okay, I know I saw a post in here regarding what to do when SDC doesn't show the newest update for DA, but I can't find it. Furthermore, my issue is quite the opposite. I uninstalled everything at home yesterday to see if a reinstall would fix my CTD issues. I still had the archives from the original versions so that is what I installed. Games played fine, went to SDC to update... and it comes up that DA is already updated to v1.50x.072. Now I know my DA game is not updated yet, as I just reinstalled it. Plus it shows in the startup screen as v1.50, so I KNOW it is not updated. So how do I get it updated if SDC is showing that I've already updated... when I haven't. This is getting to be too much guys. I've spent a few hundred dollars on this game... still have CTD issues after last update... sales messed up my original preorder and didn't send a CD since it didn't show that I ordered with CD even though I did... now the updates aren't working right... come on already. Can I just get my money back (HAH!)? I mean this is a great game and I love it... if I can ever really PLAY it! Emailed debugs... no one knows what's wrong. Somethings gotta give on this. So, anyone know what procedure I need to go about to make this update work? Do I even want the update at this point? ANY HELP ONCE AGAIN WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. And you say that purchasing/downloading from online is better than going through security protocols?

The thing you saw before but couldn't find is most likely going into SDC's options and clicking the Refresh XML button in the internet section--give that a try.

Why doesn't the XML autoupdate? Seems like the problems with SDC doing that have just come very recently...

Yes Kryo, this was what I saw and couldn't remember where to find it. I will give it a try when I get home. Once again, you are the best of the best! Thanks Kryo.

I am having the same problem. I have deliberately put off updating until the current 'issues' with the patches are resolved. The following is copied directly from my latest debug: Debug Message: Version v1.5 last updated on: Thu Jan 11 13:39:19 2007 When I go to SDC it shows that I have the latest version installed, which is clearly not the case. I have refreshed the XML, which did nothing. It still shows me having v1.50x.072, updated on 3/14/2007. What can I do about this?

That sounds like a debug from DL, not DA. Note that DA makes its own in the GalCiv2\DarkAvatar folder.

Regardless of what debug he pulled, his issue is the same as mine so if refreshing the XML isn't going to fix the issue, what will?

Debug Message: Version v1.50 Dark Avatar last updated on: Fri Feb 9 14:05:57 2007 The issue is the same for both DL and DA. SDC shows that I have DL v. 1.50.098, updated on 2/4/2007. Ideas? I would at some point like to update. This is not possible now. "Plus it shows in the startup screen as v1.50, so I KNOW it is not updated" - Ditto.

Try this, both of you. Be sure to follow these directions exactly, so nothing is damaged:

Go to run in the start menu, enter regedit and run it.

In regedit, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar.

On the right side, look at the Version line. What does it say?

If it says 1.50X.072 (or anything other than 1.50.nnn), doubleclick it and try changing it to 1.50.

Exit regedit, open SDC, and see if DA will update. If it acts like it is going to update but doesn't actually download any new files, I'll see what else we can try.

The reg says that I have v1.50.059 installed, updated on 2/09/2007. This, to my knowledge is correct.

Something's definitely strange then, because AFAIK that's exactly where SDC looks to see what version you have. So if it says 1.50.059 there, it should say the same in SDC.

You can try changing that value to something else--say, 1.50.058, and see if it then kicks SDC into showing the right version. If that doesn't do it for you, I'm not sure what else to do aside from contacting support.

I will attempt to do this tonight Kryo. Thanks again.
As an aside to this, any thoughts as to why we would be experiencing this Kryo? Seems strange that we are the only two (AFAIK) reporting this issue...

The reg entry for DL is v1.50.098, updated 2/04/2007, which is the same as SDC. I started DL to get a fresh debug, and it says-Debug Message: Version v1.5 last updated on: Thu Jan 11 13:39:19 2007. Odd. Checked SDC again and DA still reads as v1.50.072, updated on 3/11/2007. I suspect this is a problem in SDC itself, caused either by my accepting a DL update whilst rejecting the DA update, or by simply being offered the DA update and then rejecting it. I suppose there is nothing left to do but to let support try and sort things out. Is there a way to point them to this thread, so that they can read it for themselves, (and save us both time)?

Just give the link in your email to support.

Thanks for trying. I'll fire off an e-mail to them. Ciao.

Just to let you know Kryo, and Mistralok, I did what Kryo said with regards to going into the regedit. My version for DA (didn't even look for anything related to DL) said something odd, I believe it was 1.50x.059 for DA. I changed the version number to 1.50, exited and logged onto SDC. SDC acted a little strange at first with regards to the order of updating and whatnot, but it did allow me to update both games, as far as I can tell at least. I did click run from SDC for DA and it fired up the correct, updated version. I quit the game, logged off SDC and started up the game from my quick launch to the starting screen where it still showed version 1.50x3, which I assume is 1.50.072, correct? I am assuming that the regedit trick fixed me, allowing me to update, however, now I experience the 'choppy video' in the opening 'stardock spinning logo' screen and the following movie, something that I didn't have with the update before (remember, I uninstalled everything AFTER the latest update since I was having CTD's, and thought maybe a fresh install would help things). I haven't played the game yet to see if there are any other graphics issues since I won't play while online as it is pointless to burn phone time for nothing but I will give her a go to see if there are still CTD's.

Also, when I just went back into regedit to check the version, the version is correct but it shows as being updated March 14th. Is this supposed to mean when I updated it or when you guys did? Stupid ? really but thought I'd ask since I did uninstall after that date.

Thanks for the info, Evil. Glad to know that you finally got things somewhat sorted out. I didn't try the regedit thing; messing around in there can be very risky. Perhaps I should have put more trust in Kryo, he's almost always right. But if I did, then I wouldn't have found the root cause of our problem. The latest build of SDC is screwed up. It took me awhile to confirm this for myself, though I suspected it all along. I deleted, and reinstalled SDC, (the version in the 'downloads' section of the website) to no avail. I did notice, however, that SDC updated itself right away. I deleted it again- and this time I rejected the update. It started up, and, voila! It showed the correct version this time, (1.50.059- which was the last version before the latest 'bugstorm') as well as making the .072 update available to me. I updated, and my reg confirms that I now have the .072 version installed. This is not to say that all is well, though. SDC STILL insists that I updated on 3/14, when actually I did it early this morning. It also says that the movies, tutorials, and multimedia were updated on 3/14, which is hogwash. Those haven't changed since 2/6.
I don't know what to say about the choppy video issue you are having. I fired up DA, and the opening video seemed to play alright for me. The 1.50x3 showed up for me also, so that must be correct.
I haven't played a game since .059- the versions posted since were just too buggy; still are actually. My career leaves me very little free time, and it is just too valuable to waste. I may never play again. I play exclusively as Terran, and trading is a crucial part of my strategy. I can get myself out of seemingly impossible situations using little more than a smile and a handshake. The 1.4x build killed trading, and I put the game away. I was thrilled when 1.5 came out, it gave me my game back. Now they have nerfed it again. Hmm... seems that I am straying off topic to rant, so I'll close out now. Ciao.

Good to see that both of you guys got everything updated now, at least.

The last updated date shown in SDC is the release date of the latest patch (not when you installed it), which is why it says the same for everyone. Sometimes the other packages need to have their version incremented to get everything to work properly, even if nothing was actually changed.

ES, please post your debug and we'll see what we can figure out about the choppy video.

Oh, I see. Makes sense. But were the movies, tutorials, and multimedia updated on the same date? SDC says they were. That was partly the cause of my confusion.
