ArenaNet has announced that they will end the annoying chapter format of their popular MMORPG Guild Wars with the last chapter being the upcoming Eye of the North. Along with the abolishment of the old content format comes the confirmation of a direct sequel and that Eye of the North will include content to bridge Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2.
Eye of the North will be the last chapter scheduled for release and is to be released during the 2007 holiday season. Guild Wars 2 will begin beta testing shortly after that, sometime in 2008. Characters will NOT be transferable. Instead Guild Wars players will be able to transfer their character's achievements via the Hall of Monuments through a series of quests available only in the Eye of the North chapter.
Guild Wars 2 will feature four new playable races, the Sylvari, Asuras, Charr, and Norn and some "radical changes" including an "overhauled environment and character control system, redefined PvP play and retooled NPC companion system" as well as raising the level cap over to 100+ or removing it altogether. ArenaNet has also confirmed that Guild Wars 2 will be playable without a monthly fee.
