how do I install from a backup?

Downloaded with the "download and archive" option.. thinkin I would leave the computer on during the day. Returned home and found the .zip's in the backup directory... But can't seem to be able to install them.. no visible exectable at least..

Tried through the "files-restore existing" function.. but it didnt seem to do anything.

Any help much apprechiated.. I'll be eating my hat If I have to "install" download again to get it running :)

Yeah, this is my question too... obviously the file extentions are all truncated by one letter but i am curious what batch utility is supposed to be used to restore them to their workable state.

hmmm... evidently it is all controlled through the .xml file that dls too but i am not 100% certain on how to pull it off - an offical WORD would be swell.

When you right click Galactic Civilizations in the Software section of
SC there is a 'Restore archive' option as well. Have you tried that one too?
I have just started "downloading and archiving" the game as well and it wouldn't
be fun downloading it again tonight instead of playing... :(

Here's what happened to me:

Downloaded BonusPak via "archive" function;
Tried to install by hitting "install" button in SDC display;
Program started downloading again from the beginning;
Hit cancel;
Looked for download on downloaded files folder to no avail;
Checked options in SDC and it appears the file path for archive downloads in SDC itself;
Went back to SDC and right-click selected "restore archive";
Got error message - clicked OK;
Said I give and hit "install" button again figuring I would have to endure the download again (i'm on dial-up);
SDC instantly installed (or claimed to install) BonusPak;
I am pleased but must admit to sneaking suspicion that I actually don't have Bonus Pak installed.

I did this successfully but only after a few tries.

First of all search the sticky thread about obtaining the Release Candidate 1 of Stardock. This is only the known version of Stardock that works, apparently. ;p

After Stardock is run, on the menu bar make sure you update the application (forget the specifics, not at home atm).

After inputting your code and you see the galciv, etc. items on the drengin tab of Stardock, you can select the item in question, say Gal Civ. RIGHT CLICK and a sub menu should come up. Go to archives (or some such) and select restore from archive (or some such). It will bring up a window that shows what items have been downloaded. You can then select the item, and it should install it. It will only show you items downloaded and stored in the backup folder of Stardock (or the path you specified in settings on where to put the archives).

By doing this I was able to consistently install Gal Civ and the bonus pack, but failed miserably with the multimedia pack. So I blew everything away, started from scratch, and what I found out was I had to install/download the multimedia pack directly. Works well now. :CONGRAT: I think when I selected the Download and Archive for the multimedia pack the download was corrupted.
