Electronics Arts has announced that they have renewed their license agreement to retain access to the billion dollar film franchise 'The Lord of the Rings.' Considering the shelving of The Lord of the Rings: The White Council last month the fate of the license had been in question with many believing that the title may be canceled and the license left unused until it ended.
Instead EA restored hope among LOTR fans, securing the rights to the movie franchise through 2008 (Midway and Turbine's The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar is based on the original material, the books by J.R.R. Tolkien). The announcement revealed the development of an all-new title for release in 2008, which was later clarified NOT to be the aforementioned The Lord of the Rings: The White Council which remains on hold.
