Icon Developer not working properly.

Icon Developer has not been updated since Aug-2006

I have the latest versions of both Icon Packager and Icon Developer.

Recoloring Icons has been a pain for months but I could always work around it and manage to get it to finish the recoloring process.

Certain IP's are not allowing the recoloring process...If you try going through Icon developer and highlighting the new IP" "Post Tenebra Lux " It will say " Out of memory" and not allow you to even try to recolor. If you go through Icon Packager ( clicking on the Icon developer icon-right lower corner) It will allow you to recolor and when you hit save it will go through the coloring process ( which seems to take extra long these days ) Then you get a pop up that says 180 Icons have been colored.
You go to Icon Packager and the new icons are there by name but no preview and when applied you get default XP yellow folders.
I've checked with 4 other that tried to recolor same IP and they are getting the same " Out of memory" message in ID.

So...is it the software thats not working or something in certain Icon Packs causing this problem?

A simple acknowledgment of the problem with Icon Developer would save me the bother of bumping this day after day.

I have same problem too.

Maybe it's time to create a case by emailing [email protected] or going to https://www.stardock.helpserve.com ?

The forums are for community support and Stardock folks hang out when they can.  If they don't see your post or another community member doesn't knwo the answer it's time to make it a bit more formal.

I have reported the problem....pass it along or ignore it.
Makes little difference to me anymore.

And Thanks Vstyler for checking to see if you have same problem - I appreciate it.

I'll pass it along fairyy~, not a big deal.  But because I do it, you won't be able to track it.  My suggestion was actually for you benefit, not mine.

Well after 7 days of the post being ignored it just doesn't matter anymore. If 5 people are having the same problem with Icon Developer and it hasn't been updated since last August 2006 then Im sure its a universal problem...I was only reporting the fact in case they were unaware - I'm not really into tracking it all.

Thank you for reporting this issue.

I have reproduced this issue by attempting to recolor "Post Tenebra Lux IP". This doesn't give any error message other than "out of memory" as you reported. When I load the resulting .iconpackage into IconPackager, the previews show nothing and applying the package has undesirable results.

I am bringing this to the attention of the manager of development.

Thank you Mike.

There have been other IP's in the past that have had this same issue - but I'm unsure of just what is different about those certain Icon Packs - this particular pack wouldn't let me recolor even one icon. Off hand one other IP that did same thing was
" Nautical Mile " by 47Songs. Same 'Out Of Memory' message.

It would seem there is only a certain number of icons it will work with is the cause. For "Post Tenebra Lux" has 113 icons in the set. So I tried another set with only 96 icons and it worked just fine. But if I added other icons to over 96 icons for any set. It fails with the memory error as everyone is probably getting.
There is a work around this - I would check the box to only color the selected images only and then select only 96 icons to be recolored at a time. This seemes to work most of the time. [Be sure you have the check boxes selected properly - highlighting is not going to work. There is a check box for each icon and a only selected icons check box...]
Hope this will help...
Oh and by the way this has been a known problem with icon developer for many years now.
I really think that with the new OD 2008 there will be something done for the program. It will help people who do not have more time and less programs to change the icons the way they really want too. That along with some way to configure and save settings to do other selected icons after a certain number have already been done. [Best thing there is using a good set of RGB's for coloring that is a number setting!]
Like I say there has been a number of little tricks to using icon developer in the past and seems they still hold true as of today.
Good luck and if you still are having a problem and would like me to do some coloring for you just drop me a line. Would be glad to help!

Not a good sign....there are bugs in both Icon Developer and Icon Packager that need to be addressed.....

I tried both unchecking some icons and using packager explorer to remove 256 format...but it only saves as .icl.

Its the packs containing the 256 size that are causing most of the problems recoloring.

Buzzh58 figured out a way to get them to recolor. He showed me but Im not 100% I remember correctly.

But he made a copy of the IP Pack folder he wanted to recolour, then renamed Icon folder.
Then in Icon Developer go to:
File
Batch Processing
Recolor Icons or images in a folder in a folder
(Source folder)Browse for the folder you copied
click next
recolor your icons
click "Ok"
then wait...it takes longer than usual.

I couldnt even get it to recolor a pack without 256's

Your kidding...even with the latest version of Icon packager ? I know ID hasnt been updated but you should still be able to recolor most packs...but its not fast like it used to be ..it 'seems' to freeze up and cursor spins forever but if you wait long enough then do eventually finish..

I just tried...and the package didnt show up in Icon Packager - I had to click on the " Install package from disk" on bottom of IP then browse for the folder..then inside the folder it had the IP install.but im not sure what I did at that point..but I have them recolored...
This is way too much work though....

just get more access violations...not gonna try no more. This sort of behavior is why I dread ever making an icon pack...the process is far from intuitive.
