How can I submit to Metaverse? Galciv crashes..

When I try to submit my first game to Metaverse Galciv crashes.
I played most of the game without the bonuspack but now I have the bonuspack installed. Does that matter for this?

Sad to hear that it crashes.

In the galciv-directory there should be a debug.err, that one may give a hint on what's happening.

Also, Id recommend to install SmartException under the Free Stuff -tab. After installing that and rebooting, you should get a report if/when galciv crashes. That report as well as the debug.err helps the developers alot to find the error. Otherwise it may be very hird to find the bug you've found.

Do you have version 1.01 of Gal Civ?

yeah, I'm running 1.01.029 with the bonuspack now. (at least that's what SDC tells me.
The game does look different now I installed the bonuspack but only in minor details.
Could it be a problem that I played the game before updating it?

well debug.err doesn't show anything before or during the crash.
Before the crash the last line is:
Debug Message: Total Ships: 144 & 0 are dead
(that message is in there a lot of times)
and after the crash:
Debug Message: Lock: Surface is Restored.

Could it be that once you submitted the win, you got back instantaneously to your desktop?
If that is so, I tought it had crash myself the first time, but the game had just closed fast, and the score had been submitted.
I only realized it when I saw my score in metaverse. Dont forget to register in the metaverse to see your score.

that did happen indeed but just now Smartexception did tell me that the program had crashed but just didn't generate a log :-?

well, if you search the hard-drive for *.cra you should be able to find a text-file containing the info they want.

The SE-app could be better at presenting it *hint to devs* :)

I get the message that SmartException has tried to log extra information, and if I want to know more I should press the smartexception button. So I do that. And there I see: nothing.
That probably won't help the devs too much ;)

Do I need to have a specific port open on my firewall to do a metaverse submission?

I've searched all my HD's (that took a while) and found no *.cra file anywhere. :(

and to think that with my score of 100 I could actually make it to the top 25 now!!! WHEEEEH!!! :sniff!:

It's probably because I updated the game just before finishing it or something.
I'll quickly go and start a new game to create another score ;)

Looks like a TCP/IP thing. I Will have to get someone else on that one.

oh dear.
It does make sense tho, since it does crash when trying to communicate with Metaverse.

BiggyBoy is highly impressed that Frogboy can read a "TCPIP thing" in those logs.

yes I do.
the last time (the logs I posted) I used a full redirect to my computer but even that is no guarantee.
So it might very well be that that is the problem. Hence my question: do I need to open a specific port in my firewall for it to work?
