[stardock] So I made a mistake...

Is there an upsize option?

I bought the game using the Stardock service. Yeah, silly me. Trying to save the cost of pressing a CD and shipping. Is there any way I can now go back and pay shipping to get a CD version that doesn't have Stardock attached to the EXE? If not that, can I get an EXE legally that doesn't have Stardock's tentacles wrapped around it?

How is it not limiting to say that I can't run my game from another PC while away from home without having to first activate the product that I already purchased and activated.

In your case though, this limit is self-imposed. You are freely permitted to install the game on your tablet, when travelling, etc., but you decline to take a simple, harmless step necessary to do so. It is, in effect, just a part of the standard installation process which must be performed manually if you install from an archived copy, rather than by direct download to the machine in question.

Please for the love of God would someone lock this post or something... just make it disappear like the last two days of my life spent reading this.
To Andir, I am still not following your logic with all of this. I myself HATE the idea of having to use the internet for anything, only because of dial up speed, so I understand what you are saying. It seems that the only point you bring up that I can honestly say crossed my mind as well was the whole going out of business thing.
What would happen if Stardock went out of business? Who knows for sure. I will say this though, based on the support I've seen this company give to this game I would assume that the company, in it's final breath of life, would distribute their game to all of the loyal players throughout the years, either via one huge download before signing off for good or maybe just a mass land mailing of cd's. Again, just an assumption, but at least a hopeful one!

No. The CD versions do not require activation, they're just not the latest version.

Do they eventually get updated too? Frankly I don't like the sound of all this offline activation lark so ideally I'd like to wait 'til there's a polished patched version available on CD.

We haven't done that yet because then someone could just upload the CD images to a warez site.

Activating offline is fairly simple.  Here is a link to our knowledgebase article:

But Kyro, the limitation IS there. This goes back to my statement: Just because you don't call it DRM doesn't mean it isn't.

It may be a simple DRM or an easy to use one, but it's still there.

FYI: I must be freakin Wolverine or something because I had all four wisdom teeth removed no less than 20 hours ago and all my pain, inflamation, and bleeding is all gone Looks like I'll have an extra day to play.

Thanks Cari but I've seen enough people having problems that I don't want to potentially waste time and money. I really did mean "eventually" as well...it'll still be a great game in 12-18 months (or whatever) when the CDs get printed with the latest version. And if that's never...well I doubt I'll always be without a convenient 'net connection!
