New here, just picked up the Gold Edition. Need help.

Economy

Hi all,

I'm finding that the included game manual is all but useless in explaining exactly how the economy in this game functions. Can someone please post a link or give me a run down on what the heck the numbers mean and how they are derived?

I apologize because I simply cannot even ask a specific question relating to the economy. I don't even know where to begin. But let me try.

Economy Screen:

Tax rate- Suppose I set it to 50% at the start of the game. Ok fine. I'm now producing 16bc per turn I guess. How did this number just get derived? I set it to 50% but 50% of what? How did this 16bc just get calculated? Just for the heck of it, I set it to 100%. Now I'm making 32bc per turn. Is this just a random number?

I also have many questions on what the heck the sliders do below this section and how this effects the economy of each planet.

This manual is god awful at explaining any of this. I mean I am getting completely frustrated here. I'm a numbers guy and I like to know how figures are derived.

Regards

This kind of information is difficult to come by. This information has been extracted by the effort of a number of folks notably Iztok Bitenc and Random50. Here's a link to a thread where this is discussed.

DA - producing money - a testbed results

The gist of the discussion is that income in DL is:

34.5 * sqrt(population_in_billions) * tax_rate * (1 + sum from buildings on planet) * (1 + sum from racial bonuses)

For DA the constant 34.5 changes to 28.5.
