Good review that.

Would have made me very interested in the game, if I didn't yet have it. "Simple yet deep" always appeals to me.

Pretty good review. Covers the most important aspects of the game. Could have gone deeper, but it's a good read and a very nice score.

Just in case you didn't see my post on the front page in reply to Brad's announcement; if you go to the GameSpot main page and find the MOO3 review, you'll see that GalCiv significantly outscores MOO3, 8.4 to 6.7. :)

The gamers score means even more, and the void between the 2 games is much greater there. I hope they fix MOO3. I could always use another good strategy game. I had made up my mind to purchase, but Sam Parker giving such a positive review of GalCiv without slamming anything, makes me feel all ther better spending my Sociol Security Disability money on this title. I need bang for my buck. Sam was more than fair to MOO3. I trust his opinion on a title like this.

Agreed, I like MoO3, but until they get the patch out, I'm primarly focused on GalCiv. Once MoO3 plays better, then I'll see which I play more, though I can't see me entirely giving up one or the other, they satisfy different cravings/needs. GalCiv is always a fast-paced game. MoO3 starts to drag quite a bit on my decent but dated gamemachine (AMD 1500, 512MB DDR, GF3 Ti200) after a while, but GalCiv zips along. On the other hand, there's a lot more decisions to be made in MoO3.

I think the "one-more-turn" urge is as strong for me in GalCiv as it is in MoO3, but on the other hand, since I'm always in the middle of something with MoO3, I hate to break for any reason. With GalCiv, I don't mind taking breaks to pay attention to the family because I can always come back to the game, and with just a minute or two of looking at the situation, remember right where I left off.

on the front page of gamespot.com right now they're advertising the galciv review with this text:
"Find out what makes Stardock's space empire game superior to Master of Orion III in our review." :)

I like Gamespot. The guys there always seem to give indie devs and small devs a fair shake. They are the Fox News of the game review industry. BUT, make sure game doesn't suck--> http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/godsgenerals/index.html

Worst review score ever handed down by Gamespot. (Check out the videos if you can, they are hilarious.) LOL

Popup Target,

Well put. Perhaps that is why both will likely survive... with all suitable development/patches in place - over time.

I was deifnitely nervous on this one. Gamespot's review isn't just the first major review, but it really sets the tone for things to come.

Ironically, 8.4 is what they gave our last game -- The Corporate Machine.

Here is my take on this review. He basically said nothing negative about the game. I think the score he gave was too low for his apparent positive attitude about the game. Basically, the score was lowered for graphics and sound, both of which are minor for this type of game. I personally think it looks very good for a game of its type. So, with that in mine, I think his score really should have been about a 9.

I was weird because after I read the review and saw the score, I had to look back and see if I missed where he discussed the game's bad points. Frogboy, I think you should be proud of the content of this review and overlook the score itself.

If a game is bad, Gamespot is usually one of the first reviewers that will actually give it a score it deserves. Anything above an 8 is worth getting. They are usually right on IMO.

My mind is made up. I'm getting this game. However I'll wait til friday, when I get paid. Hopefully we'll have more reviews by then.

Well, that settles it. I was lurking on this board, but now that gamespot has given it's a-OK and the reaction seems to be positive, so giddy-up. She's mine!

Well actually, the reviewers 'tilt' is indeed '9'. So yes.. he seems to agree with you completely. He feels he must average out the score like they average out *all* game scores, to include graphics and sound, but his personal tilt is 9.

That is a fine review. 8.6 is 'great' on their grading system. For most 4x gamers, it will indeed be a 9, and in fact, over the course of the year, it will only increase with the bonus packs, updates, ai fixes, etc. Not that it needs much fixing now. LOL

Fine review.. not a negative thing in it. All positive = very good.

Congratulations on the good review. Penny Arcade peaked my interest, but I was waiting for gamespot to review. I picked up a subscriptions so I'll be busy for a while.
