Linux with WineX

Just FYI for any Linux and WineX users out ther (myself included). I just tried GC with WineX 2.2 and WineX 3.0rc1 and neither work properly. The install works fine and the initial splash screen comes up, but no go on the game.

Stardock central won't install at all (no IE in WineX), but the downloadable patch did seem to apply fine.

I got the same thing. It installed okay from linux right off the CD but flips out when you go to play the game. I think it might have something to do with the screen resolution changing on the fly, since it also weirds out my monitor on occasion in windows.No other app i've ever had has done that.

what if you try the windowed build?

Wow, you got up to the splash screen? When we tried it here it didn't even make it out of the initialization.

The windowed build will still change resolution for the bink cutscenes, but if it didn't find the cutscenes it wouldn't try playing them.

I'm planning on giving it some more time, but since it didn't work out of the box I had more interest in playing it (i.e. reboot to windows and install and play) than in trying to get it to work with WineX.

I'll play with it more later this week and post some results.
