Wallpaper Changer

Perhaps a project for someone who is good at this kind of thing - not me I'm afraid!

In XP I had a small utility which automatically changed wallpapers - you could specify things such as change wallpaper every day or every logon or every hour, and whether the wallpaper should be chosen at randon from a specified location or loop though all available wallpapers.

I have quite a collection of Dream files now - it would be nice to have a similar utility that works with them to keep the desktop fresh?

Cheers

Yeah... I´ve wondered how come stardock has not come with a wallpaper changer in a long time... Also, a Dream that used pictures randomly with some nice 3D effect would be nice.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned but what is so bleeding hard about just changing the wallpaper yourself? HA HA Don't get mad it's just that I don't understand why someone needs a Wall Changer. Never have never will.

I've released a product that can do that on the 1st of May but I'm currently busy ironing out a few bugs and should complete it by tomorrow or early next week. This project was started a long time ago and had the capability to change animated wallpapers in XP. When the .dreams came out it was very easy to accommodate them as the program already had the capability to schedule animated wallpaper.

Apart from animated wallpapers it can also change static wallpaper and you can mix and match static and animated wallpapers in the same schedule. You can set the cycle delay of animated and static wallpapers independently. Different schedules can be set up and it uses Month, Day and Time as activation criteria making it possible to set wallpapers or animated wallpapers only to display during a certain time of the day, day of the week or month of the year. The product can also schedule screensavers and also use the activation criteria I just mentioned.

Apart from handling wallpapers, animated wallpapers and screensavers, it can also schedule system sounds and use day of week and time of day as activation criteria. Another feature (like changing animated wallpapers) that will be a first, will be the program's screensaver settings scheduler that allow you to schedule screensaver timeouts and "Set To None" for different days of the week and times of the day.

I thought of mentioning it before in this forum, but I think that will not be the appropriate thing to do. As I've read this post I thought I will just reply to let everyone know that such an option is already available.

Unfortunately the program will not be free as I've put about 600 hours of programming and testing into it as it is not just a simple wallpaper changer that could basically be set up in a couple of hours depending on the feature set. I've also spend more than a $1000 on a MSDN subscription to test it against all versions of Vista and even spend more than that on a Notebook PC to do the 64 bit testing as my current systems were not capable of 64 bit.

Of course I cannot supply the website address here or the program name as it would be violating forum rules. Widespread distribution over the Internet will start by tomorrow or Monday. I would however like it if somebody from Stardock can contact me and I can offer this product to the Wincustomize users in partnership with Stardock. Hopefully it can be made available to the Wincustomize users at a huge discount as apposed to what the normal price will be. All will depend if I can struck a deal with Stardock.
