Is DA too complex?

I haven't had a lot of time to play the expansion, but when I do find time, I find it somewhat annoying. I think this is in part due to relearning the pace of the game, and figuring out what works.

Mostly though, I find the new complexities of the game don't really improve the game. It just seems like now there are more things to balance. The main reason I got DA, was for the improved AI. To be honest, I haven't been able to stomach a game long enough to notice it. Have the same improvements made their way into DL ?

Don't get me wrong, I love the ideas of DA, and especially the improved ship designer. However, I just don't find the game as enjoyable...

What I can't decide is will I eventually love DA?. Is it worth investing the time?

Just curious, what complexities bother you?

Yea, I love all the new added features. Not sure what's so complex. The new planet types add a *necessary* complexity and spies are fairly simple to understand. Aside from that...maybe it's the asteroid fields? You can turn those off, but really they just provide bonus production points.

The new planet types are nice, but I dislike the fact that there is no option for how common they are. I wound up making quite a few changes to the tech tree to prevent the situation where an AI rushes another, crushes them with influence, and gets pissed off that they are influencing their half terraformed worlds so starts a war

There isn't really much complexity in the new planet types. Just the research associated with it, and the tech trading that follows - which is not necessarily a good thing. As for the necessary part, they play exactly like normal planets once fully operational, so they're really just more of the same. The asteroid fields, they're just more of the same too, and those actually a necessity due to the extreme nerfing of the factories. Cheaper production that doesn't use up tiles, that's all. The espionage system, well, there wasn't enough cheese already?

I also would like an option on the number on "inhabitable non-inhabitagle" planets.
