DreamScenes Problem

I am writing this after having tried everything possible way to solve the following detaile problem I am facing with Vista Ultimate Dream Scene Preview which was offered through microsoft update for Vista Extras:

First of all I would like to say that I am a professional Advanced user, my system configuration is as follows:

My pc is powered by MS Windows Vista Ultimate n'vidia  GeForce 7900 GTX 1GB RAM; 4GB of RAM, Samsung 21" 1600x1280 resolution; dual HDD SATA 350GB ea. Intel 3.60GHz cpu.  So enough power there.

To begin with, I have checked for MS update and the a list of updates was shown to me to select and install in addition to the Windows Ultimate Extras, I have first installed the necessary files and rebooted the system as required, then I selected the additional Ultimate extra updates which included about four files as I remember including DreamScape preview Ultimate extra which is the main issue I am facing the problem with, after the extras installation, I was able to reboot the system and when started I tested DreamScene preview and every thing worked out just fine as I was able to run mpg or loops suported, however I was not able to view the installed update in the installed update area as it use to be in win xp where you would have had the choise to remove/uninstall the update should you not need it or is causing you problems, but in Vista I was unable to see any updated files what so ever, however you can only see them in the area of "Windows update-view update history" but nothing you can do from there to remove or uninstall any update.

The problem started after I have downloaded Stardock (http://dream.wincustomize.com/index.aspx?c=1) Deskscape 1.0 which was developed jointly to support MS dreamscene, the software deskscape 1.0 was suppose to allow superior and more developed dream loops to run when the .dream or .mpeg .mpg are selected from personalize-desktop background-chose a desktop background area, however after I have installed deskscape 1.0 I was unable to run any more loops mpg or dreams, again I have tried everything possible uninstalling rebooting and trying to run the loops again, and reinstalling and even recover from the previous point before the installation of the software but without any success. I was sershing all over the net for solution from Stardock forums and discussions to MS Vista forum and discussions, many people had different related problems as well as similar problem, but no sugested solution other than saying that MS will release a soon full virsion rather than a preview version of DreamScene as they are working on solving this problem, moreover, Stardock has also released an updated version of DeskScape 1.01 which I have also triedout installed but did not solve this issue either.

Now when I try to when ever I click on a loop MPG or Dream or WMV I receive the following message in a window:

Stardock Deskscapes: Windows Dreamscene required.

Stardock Deskscape currently required that microsoft's windows DreamScene be installed in order to play video-based dream content.

Windows dreamscene is part of the windows Vista Ultimate Extras.

To install windows Vista ultimate Extras, please use your windows update software which can be found in your start menu.  Please install the ultimate Extra windows dream scene to play this dream.

Now keep in mind that I have already installed windows ultimate extras dreamscene preview and I can neither find it in the update in order to uninstall it and re install it and nor is it available in the windows update in order for me to reinstall it assuming that the system knows it is installed.

Kindly advise me of any possible solution which my finally resolve this matter, or may be you will advice me with a link to reinstall dreamscene or the new codec.  I will appreciate your support in this matter greatly.

In addition, I have sent this message to MS Technical support team in order to look into the problem after I had communicated this issue to them by phone.

Regards,

OAJ

You can uninstall Windows DreamScenes by going to control panel, uninstall a program. In the left pane, under tasks you need to click on View installed updates. From there you can unininstall Windows Dreamscene. I would try uninistalling Deskscapes first and reboot.
Then uninistall Windows DreamScene and reboot.
Re-install Dreamscene, reboot. Re-install Deskscapes and reboot again if needed.

Thx phoon, however this is the strage thing about the problem, I am unable to find any update from MS in the program-program and features-installed updates except for the outlook 2007 junk email filter (KB932338). MS DreamScene is no where to be found in the update are; you can only see MS DreamScene update as well as other MS updates in the windows update in the (View Update History). When clicked on it I copied and pasted the information shown as bellow:

Windows DreamScene Preview

Installation date: ‎3/‎27/‎2007 1:34 AM

Installation status: Successful

Update type: Optional

When you install this Windows Ultimate Extra, you can select a video for your desktop background in the same way that you select a stationary picture, and you can choose new positioning options for static and moving backgrounds. Windows DreamScene video support requires a graphics card that supports Windows Aero. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

I think I need better solution please.

volcan,

When you look under 'program and features-installed updates", did you try and double-click the header called "Microsoft Windows", or you can also use the tiny up/down arrows all the way on the right side of the window at the end of the thin line.

Hope this makes the updates show for you so you can uninstall it.

TheMasterBaron,

Thanx for your assistance, but I wish that I have not tried out everything that is possible, then maybe I could have tried your suggestion, however, as I had mentioned earlier that there are no updates in the (program and features-Installed updates) only four updates three of which are from Corel and one update from MS (Outlook 2007 junk email filter (KB932338) and no arrows up/down as there are only 4 updates. To make things worse I have tried to install the (KB932338) several times befor I got it as it kept giving me error updaying. Now there is another update (Update for windows mail junk E-mail filter (April 2007) (KB905866) which the update keeps on failing to install. I have tried installing new codec in case that could be the problem, and now MS Media player gives me error message "Media foundation protected pipeline exe has stoped working" "a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". when ever I try to run a loop.

Now needs more help than ever, but thanks for your suggestion and your help I need something new and I have not yet tried.

Thx

There should be an arrow that shows the updates?

The only other thing I can suggest is to try something like "Your Uninstaller", a trial version can be DLed here (Not sure if it's vista ready?):

Your Uninstaller

Hi Volcan,
I'm curious to know, are you using Windows Vista Ultimate upgrade or is it the Windows Vista Ultimate full version?

hey Volcan,
have you tried turning off DEP? this helps with a lot of programs or updates not installing on some systems....have you manually deleted dreamscene from your system and reg?

Hi TheMasterBaron,

Again thanks for your help. Now I understand what you mean by the small arrows on the far right side of the installed upgrades screen, I have prosumed that there are other errows like scroll, however as I have mentioned in my earlier reply, that there are only 4 upgrades showing and only one is from MS upgrade for MS (Outlook 2007 junk email filter (KB932338). I have been communicating with MS support and to day I have sent them lots of screen shots and additional information they have requested from the system, according to MS support they have tested Stardock DreamScene and have informed me that maybe the problem is possibly MS DreamScape and or the codec, as he has advice to run several tests including the uninstall of all the third party codec from the system, now my WMP does not play any sound when trying to playing an MP3 audio file and an error message pops on the screen "Media foundation pipeline EXE has stoped working, a problem caused the program to stop working correctly, windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". I do not know what else to do, I believe that MS should have provided some type of repair tools in their media player menue and or all of the vista ultimate system allowing the user to run a system check and repair of any missing, replaced or damaged files, setting the system back in order rather than having the user to focus on problems rather than productivity. But again even with MS support member assuming that the problem lies else where other than DreamScene, I believe otherwise as this problem began right after installing DreamScene 1.0 and even after uninstalling it and installing version 1.01 that did not help. Should MS solve this puzzle first, I would advice every one of the finding as no one should go through this problem again. I am still loking for ideas in solving this issue.

Thx.

Hi Tripdog,

I have turned off DEP since the begining to avoid annoyance especially when I install secured and known software. I did not manually delete dreamscene from my system and reg.

Thx

One thing to try: In Windows Update, turn off updates for all products, so it lists: "You receive updates: For Windows Only." I've read somewhere that if you enable updates for everything, Ultimate updates won't show up.

I'm not sure what happened... I uninstalled everything just as you did. I couldn't get DreamSceans to show back up in Windows Update. I went to download an update for my printer and the download failed. The update page went to a page that asked if I would like to "find missing updates", I clicked the link, and there it was, DreamScene Preview... WooHoo!

I fixed the problem.
But how exactly?????

I unchecked the marks "windows dreamscene" en "windows dreamscene preview", (takes some time while pc is configuring) then restart pc.

Then i checked the mark "windows dreamscene preview"(takes some time while pc is configuring) then restart pc.
And the windows dreamscene works again.
