Valve's Steam System Reportedly Hacked

Recent reports have indicated that a hacker who goes by the name of 'MaddoxX' was able to break into the content distribution system run by Valve Corporation. The hacker has claimed via a post on an anti-Steam website that he was able to bypass the companies security and obtain a slue of sensitive data including customer's credit card information. Not stopping there the hacker also claims to have obtained screenshots of internal webpages, Valve financial data, error logs, and at least a portion of Valve's cybercafe directory. 'MaddoxX' also posted a model certificate, claiming that the more advanced users can use it to make them appear to be in the cafe program.

The hacker has made threats of posting the credit card information, which as of press time seems to only be related to the cafe members. MaddoxX, whom has already posted a good amount of information which Valve has not declared deemed fake or real, has offered Valve an ultimatum to posting the extremely sensitive credit card information stating:

"If you want me to remove these files you can e-mail me at (address removed) and I prefer you come with something good unless you want me to expose ALL of the customers their information. "

Valve's forums have obviously been a storm of activity since the story broke, largely with complaints and customer's asking for more information on the topic. Currently Valve is still looking into the situation.


 Although TG doesn't normally comment on rumors until we have confirmation one way or another we feel this one is prudent due to its potential impact on customer security.
