help with unistalling Vista

Hi I just purchased a new Acer laptop woth Vista pre-installed and I don't like it so I want to use windows XP but I'm not sure how to do it on a Dual core processor. I know it's partitionaed into 2 different partitions so I would like to keep it that way. i do have an XP disc.

The processor has nothing to do with it. If that 1st partition isn't your restore disk then set up a dual boot with XP on the 2nd. If the 1st is your restore, then set up a 3rd partition and install XP on it.

it's more and likely you'll ether have to set up a dual boot or nuke the drive all together.since vista was pre-installed it's a high chance it's a fresh install meaning there is no other OS on the drive but the current one.some often a OEM will set 2 partitions on the drive, one being the main (where the OS is installed and running) and the other is usually a restore.

I want to ask you something By shylitlkitten:

Why do you not like Vista in the first place? I know that on laptops it comes with the most run down version but have you ever given it a chance? Also there won't be anyway for you to uninstall Vista at all. Most Laptops that you either buy at the store or online pre-install it for a reason and if it has a separate partion on it that means your out of luck really because XP won't detect any of drivers for that laptop. so learn to like Vista it's not a bad OS unless your scared to learn a new OS or not to bright to learn a new OS at all! Frankly that is what I am seeing after reading some posts is that people like yourself are scared of changes and for some odd reason can't accept a new OS.
So my advice keep it cause you cant Uninstall it and if you try to install XP on a different partion on that Hd it probably won't work at all.
So learn the new Os I am sure you well like it! It has alot of great features that XP doesn't have.

Oh yeah just one more question for you:

Why did you buy the laptop in the first place? Surly you knew that it came with Vista anyways. From knowing that you bought and now you don't like vista.. so why did you buy it?
you could have ordered a Laptop with XP on it from some other place to.

Not quite sure where wriker is coming from...but you can certainly dual-boot for XP on a different partition, and Vista can be removed....if in no other way than by reformat...

Particularly with regards to OS/system queries....listen primarily to yrag ....he tends to know what he's saying...

Yep, yrag was succinct, and correct...

Removing vista is so easy. I have Partition Commander and I've used it extensively to set up XPSP2 on my machine. Use XP to reformat and do a clean install. It'll wipe the drive and you'll have XP without excess baggage. My three cents lol BTW...my first machine was homebuilt. 500mhz that I boosted to 550mhz with a small timing circuit I made. I ran three O/S's on that machine...Windows 95, 98SE and NT4.0...so I don't think it scares me or anyone else for that matter.

I dual-boot between Vista and XP and have no problems. However it has been so long since I booted XP that I don't know if it still works.
