New to this..where to start?

Finally quitting my WoW addiction and have been wanting to give this game a try. Are both campaigns worth doing while learning the game or should I just jump into the sandbox mode? Are the new additions of the expansion good enough to warrant ignoring the original campaign? So many choices..just need a nudge in the right direction, thanks!

I suggest you just get stuck in, Dread lords or dark avatar, Just pick smaller galaxies and easier levels few races, at first.
If you need and help after that theres loads of ideas on the forums, but don't be shy, if you can't find it in search there's loads of help here.

Look up "economy", "colony rush" and "military", amongst others, you'll find loads of advice

Start up a medium galaxy with like 5 races, on low AI.

no, go fot it. medium galaxy, suicidal all races and kiss you ass goodningt. lol.
Its fun for a bit and it surely teaches you a lesson about trusting the AI.

No good way to start.
Just a best way to get murdered.
