Kudos on the cutscenes

Been enjoying the cutscenes immensely. IMHO, it's important for the player to be rewarded when something cool happens - new planet colonization, etc.

Without intending to turn this into another MOO3 bashing thread, I really missed the neat little cutscenes from the earlier MOOs. It's amazing how even the simple GNN animation contributed to the game. To me at least, the lack of cutscenes in MOO3 is one reason the game felt as if it didn't have a soul. A boring status report just isn't enough to get me excited about significant events.

Now I'm sure I'll tire of the cutscenes eventually, but I'm having fun with them now :)

yeah the cutscenes remind me of the original Civilization, and was part of that game's unique charm...something that is lost in current games.

I totally agree, Stevious. That was one of the serious "lack of soul" issues I had with MOO3 that GalCiv does right.

Not just the cutscenes, but how you get this cool animated robot popping up to tell you that you just got a technology breakthrough (and giving a ton of detail, both "story" and fact about that tech) is very cool. It actually makes a new tech breakthrough an event...something significant and exciting. In MOO3, it was a line on a potentially huge SitRep and often one of many.

Anyway, I'm going to stop ragging on MOO3, but I'll just close by saying I'm quite happy I found out about this game. :)

I wish to second the Kudos! The cutscenes really do fit the game's mood, and add to it! Wonderful job Stardock! Wonderful!

Glad you like them. Believe it or not, almost all of them were made in the last month.

The game originally was slated to come out in Feb but got bumped back a month for distribution reasons (so we didn't come out when MOO 3 came out). But our art team then had an extra month to add more stuff that we could throw into the game.

So ironically, the mini cut scenes wouldn't have been in if it weren't for MOO 3 pushing us back 1 month.
