Sound Bugs

Great game, but two things.
-One,I've downloaded Stardock and registered GalCiv but how do I know if it's updated. I don't see a release number anywhere on the game screen.
-And Two, The music is great and the intro plays fine, but during the cutscenes and if I run the Credits the sound skips every 5-10 seconds. No big deal but annoying since they are such great scenes. I have had this problem on a few games, and almost all from Strategy First. I have the latest Bink&Smacker and Sound Drivers. Any suggestions? :notsure:

For your first question, go into StarDock Central and click on the software tab. Highlight each of the options there (Galactic Civilizations, Bonus Pack, etc). If a button appears to the right of the option, when you highlight it, that says something like "Install" or "Update" then you haven't upgraded your game with that feature yet. Click on the appropriate button and it should download and install that feature for you. For some options, though, you don't need to worry as much. For example, you really don't need to download and install the Windowed Version unless you really want. Likewise, you don't have to d/l and install the PDF Manual just to play the game.

But definitely make sure you have the latest version of GalCiv this way and that you have the Bonus Pack.

I *think* that one of the official suggestions for your second question is to go into options and turn off "Background Loading." I'm not really sure if that's the solution to your problem, but it's probably worth a shot.

Oh! Also make sure you have DirectX 9 installed. If you have the GalCiv CD, it comes on that. Otherwise you'll probably have to search on the web for it.

Any word on what is causing this problem or how to fix it. I am running Win Me with a SB Live Gamer. All the latest drivers are installed as well as DirectX 9 but I still have sound skips. This is the only game that I have this problem with. Please help. Thanks.

As I posted in the other thread, this link will help you if you had another program overwrite microsoft mp3 codecs:

http://www.stardock.com/files/ms_mp3codec.exe

Otherwise, we'll have an update coming soon. I can't guarantee that it'll be in the very next one because the whole team was not testing with the updated mp3 code.
