Sugestion for future update. Dev's please read

PLEASE, can we have newly created ships appear free in space instead of being in orbit? I find it really annoying that I have to hunt around for the planet that just made a ship, and sometimes I forget that ships were created and are sitting uselessly in orbit doing nothing.

For example, i found a great resource and started making a few constructors. A bunch of other things were created the turn the constructor came out, and I did not see it for another 10 turns. By the time I found it, an AI took over that resource. :(

Thoughts?

i know in Civ3 that when a new unit is produced it appears "on top of" the city that just created it and pops up in your "troops with moves still left" cycle. That way you know it's there and can either go ahead and move it or set it to guard that city (in which case it won't pop up again until you go after it).

If something like that could be implemented, that would be good. Maybe that once you cycle through all of the popup windows that come from things being built and such and get to the point where you can move your ships, it will cycle through these newly built ships asking you if you want to launch the ship or have it stay in that system on guard duty.

How about having the ability to launch ships from orbit from the ship list?

That would be a very nice thing to do too CariElf. Ardrikk, thats what I was thinking. I could cycle though all my active ships first, then get to the new ships after, so i could garrison or move out at my command. Its a bit clunky right now.

This used to bother me until I realized the easy way to handle it. You will be taken to the planetary screen at the start of the turn after you complete a build. In the lower right will be the icon for the ship. Click and it'll leave orbit. No more hunting around. I like having ships stay in orbit; I often want defense ships and transports doing exactly that.

Good idea, Cari...though I'm not sure that would truly address Arkham's point. That being that he forgets that he even has those ships there. I know I rarely open my Ship List in a typical turn, so if I forget that a planet or two built a ship *and* don't bother or think to open my ship list, I'd still forget I had those ships in orbit.

If there were some popup asking if you wanted to launch the ship or else the ship simply appeared on top of the star, ready to be moved or assigned guard duty (as you chose), then that would ensure you couldn't forget it.

The only real flaw I can see with this idea is what to do about colony ships. Since you have to choose how many colonists to load into the ship before it can launch, it can't be ready to move until you've done that. In that case, maybe you could do a popup dialog or else show the ship above the star, but still have that system's planet list, with the Load/Launch dialog in the bottom right corner like normal, pop up...and then not let you move the ship until you've actually clicked on Launch there.

Good idea, aweill...I'll have to try and remember to do that. Does it led you Load up Colony Ships and Launch them from there, too?
