A new MMO studio has announced itself to the world boasting some pretty good resumes with employees having their hands in some of the markets biggest franchises. Colony Studios will contain industry veterans who have worked on everything from the MMO 800-pound gorilla that is World of Warcraft to the just released Lord of the Rings Online and the ancient Ultima Online.
The new company is headed by former Eve Online senior producer Michael Wallis who had the following to say about the new company: "Most dev teams - including Colony’s - have gone through the process of learning what doesn’t work in game development, but our team members have also been intimately involved with creating what does work in several successful MMOs and that combination will serve us well. "
Wallis continued that, "The bottom line is we've launched MMOs before, and our experience lets us anticipate bumps in the road and steer clear of them. The fact that we've been through it before means things are much less likely to fall through the cracks."
The new dev house hopes to achieve what every MMO developer does, bringing "new life into what is often described as a somewhat stagnant increasingly generic genre." Colony has announced that their first IP, which is to be an original property, will be out in 2009 and "it won't be a World of Warcraft clone with a new IP skin."
