Late Game Spending

I find late in a game I been a Federation for many years got Avatars etc... all my system have built almost all social project and I have the maximum number of trade routes.

The game gets to point where I can not keep a balanced budget. I am spending 2000BC more than I get from Taxes, trade routes.

What do I do ?

I can not increase my tax rate which is at about 35% and the spending rate is low but I still do not get enough cash.

I usually trade techs to Aliens for cash but after awhile they have no cash and it does not last.

Am I building too many social projects ?

Remember that you pay MAINTENANCE on ships as well! How many avatars and ships do you have? Also, what is your moral like. If it's low then 35% may be too high. You could get more money at lower tax rates as more people become happy and pay taxes.

Something else you could try is to build more Starbases along your trade routes and add trade enhancing modules to them all, giving you a boost to trading income?
If you're *significantly* more powerful than some races, maybe you could try demanding tribute from them?

Moral is like high 90%-100%
Every time a planets moral got low I bought them a social project.

My population loves their leader !!

The game I was refering to I was not a warmonger so I had lots of starbases but few expensive ships.

What few race are left do not have much cash and it would be out of character at this point to demand anything.

I won the game all the Alien races thought Humanity was a race of gods but I had a hard time staying out of the red.

As your Empire grows the amount you should be able to borrow should also go up. 500BC late in the game is chump change.

Maybe my population was not growing fast enough.

Low population higher the moral but lower the tax revenue.

I wonder if the Aliens have to deal with a IRS :)

Don't social projects come with maintenance costs? I would imagine anyone who just constructs them blindly would end up depleting their treasury very soon...

Can you scrap alot of your ships late in the game to
avoid maintenance costs?

I also find that i am in the red late in the game...
and it is harder and harder to stay above -500 without
selling techs ..but that's only a temporary fix....
i have a low tax rate as well...

Q: are your maintenance costs for your fleet less if you
spend a greater % on the military slider?

The main problem i'm finding in this game for my lame
brain i guess is running a fiscally sound empire.

Technician said "Every time a planets moral got low I bought them a social project."

If you really purchased a whole lot of social projects, then you must have a whale of a lease bill every turn. Right?

keep moral between 50-60 and you should be much better off! Surely you know that you'll bankrupt a country if you try to make everyone happy!

Sure I have heavy lease payments but what can I do not build social projects? If the population is not happy they defect and I certainly do not want that to happen.

Not building social projects also equates to low population growth.

Would you not be upset at you government if you kept getting taxed but see nothing in return ?
