SOE Purchases Sigil Games, 'Vanguard'

Sony Online Entertainment has officially purchased Sigil Games, the developer behind the recently released and less than stellar performing Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. The possibility of an acquisition was discussed last month and announced to the player-base of Vanguard on the official forums stating that SOE was: "in discussions with Sigil regarding the future of Vanguard and Sigil Games in Carlsbad."
The rumor has now become official with a posting on Station.com from SOE President John Smedley that said in part "Today I would like to formally announce that SOE has acquired the assets of Sigil Games Online, including Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. As a part of this acquisition, we are bringing on approx 50 people from Sigil in order to insure that Vanguard continues to grow."
Smedley made sure to point out that former Sigil Games CEO and co-founder Brad McQuaid will remain on board as a "consultant to SOE as a creative advisor for Vanguard" with Dave Gilbertson taking over the day-to-day operations of the title and the Sigil Carlsbad office. Last but not least Smedley says that SOE remains committed to their newly purchased assets and will first tackle performance and legacy issues before they begin pumping out additional content and expansions.
