Does trading and/or selling techs with the evil empires move you in that direction?

For example..if you are a benevolent ruler and make all
the very goody good choices when the 3 decision options
on events come up.......can you negate that move towards
the "good" side by trading or selling techs with the
evil empires? or can you actually move more toward evil
by doing this than making the goody good decisions?
i'm not clear on this in my trial game.
