Ship directives

Can anyone explain what they do. I cant find anything about it.

What si difference between sentry and gurd and how to use these commands?

Why does auto survey stop after a while?

Sentry and Guard put the ship on stationary alert status. When on sentry the ship will return to normal status when a ship of any other race approaches within sensor range. When on Guard, the ship will return to normal status when any _enemy_ ship approaches.

And Auto survey will disable itself if no known anomalies are available, then kick back into gear when one becomes available.

From observation, it's quite obvious that sector sweep is sort of a "patrol" maneuvre where it travels around the perimeter of the sector. I find this useful because its a simple way of amplifying your sensor range, rather than keeping the ship asleep in the middle of the sector.

However, I've always disabled Sector Sweep before getting into a war situation so I don't know how such a ship responds to an incoming enemy.

Terrorstars don't seem to have any ship directives (such as Guard or Sentry mode). Would anyone else use this but me? Thanks.

We can always add those two directives to the Terror Star extended ship data display...but our hope (at one time) was to have starbase specific directives. Have an starbase equiped with the "Core Detonation" module? You'll get the option to self distruct your SB, damaging all enemy ships in the sector. Or perhaps a "Extended Sensors" where, for 1 turn, you can re-route power from your shields (-defense) to boost your sensor range. Of course, none of these made it in...perhaps for a bonus pack, but given the coding they'd take to put in, probably a GC2 feature ;)

Bonus Bonus Pack... sounds great! Don't forget the "spring clearance sale" button for Terrorstars with cultural modules. :-)

Seriously, I'd be perfectly happy with the "generic" guard & sentry so that I don't have to "space" past them each turn during those blasted "peace" periods. Or even a generic "sleep" (ignore all until clicked) would be very usefull for all ships (especially terrorstars, constructors, colonizers, and transports) as you don't always want them to wake up even for hostiles.

Of course having terror stars doing sector sweeps would be pretty darn funny :-)
