Any way to alter starting conditions?

Is it for instance possible to start all the races with a bank 5000 instead of a 1000? Or, start with fewer races?

What does the prefs.ini file do? Altering stuff there seems to have no effect.

Any answers will be appreciated.

You can't alter your starting treasury, but you can turn races on and off by clicking on their portrait in the Race Setup screen. Also, if you havn't downloaded the Bonus Pack, the Player/Galaxy Setup screen has been beefed up to allow pretty substantial customization of the games different features.

Speaking of startup settings - does anyone else care about a "random frequency" setting? Personally I'd like an option of 3X or 4X as many random occurrences - and since everyone has an opposite, I bet there are those who want zero random occurrences (so as to maximize the strategy aspects of the game).

I'd even like to see both a selector for "United Planet Vote occurrences" and one for "Random Event occurrences". Just me?

I agree. I've had many a game where I was playing quite well and being proud of my sorry ass, only to have a random event completely kill me.

Definitely an option to vary the number of minors and their income capabilities would be nice. It would then make a very huge difference to game play.
