'LEGO Universe' Set For Q4 2008

Block Farming Brough to You By NetDevil

LEGO has announced an MMO based on those little building blocks that took up so much of everyone's childhood. LEGO Universe is being developed by NetDevil in hopes of sucking even more time from today's youth. The all-new MMO is planned to launch Q4 2007 and is to feature all your MMO staples including character advancement, chat features and social interaction. NetDevil is also trying to integrate some not so common features such as a child-safe environment.

"LEGO Universe is being built as a place where fans and community members can discover nearly unlimited play possibilities," said Ryan Seabury, NetDevil Lead Producer on LEGO Universe. "Given the strength of the LEGO community, a large part of bringing the game to life will be working hand in hand with them to ensure that the core values of creativity, connectivity, and imagination are reflected in the end product."

I realize I'm talking with only 2nd hand background here, but why would parents pay for their young children to play in an online MMO?  I would think most parents would want their kids outside playing in the real-world and not on some MMO talking to gods know who.

For those parents that just plunk their kids infront of the TV and forget about them this is the next best thing.  TV lets the kids go with commercials and stuff, an MMO won't!
