Pre-Beta 2 Teaser Shot

The machines of war start turning....

Later this week we'll be announcing the details for Sins of a Solar Empire Beta 2, due out later this month. In the meantime, we wanted to share this new in-game screenshot for one of the latest TEC frigates that testers will be able to use soon.

On the whole megaships thing, Designer was being very specific. And Yarlen parhaps was being just as specific. Yarlen never said no megaships, he said no ship that has construction capabilities or can dock frigates. Although because the whole mothership thing was included in Designer's question, I am a bit skeptical.

I generally only quote new threads. Otherwise, ongoing threads get a link in the ongoing section, unless there's something really groundbreaking posted in it. It's the same treatment all ongoing threads get.

well, forgive my ballbusting, but the idea was not adressed in the least, where far smaller details had a lot of attention. its just that as of current I feel like there isnt enough oomph and bam in fleets, and having 30 or 40 so of the "capital ships" in even a small game makes your fleets seem too impersonal. I think there should always be a ship that requires a serious investment to sustain.

it was one of the reservations I had when I posted this, but I thought "hell, I think yarlen's smart enough to qualify his response to make it clearer", so I blasted away.

Not for lack of discussion or mention on the roundup thread. The word 'megaship' is mentioned no less than seven times on the roundup thread, with one quote (from the mobile-factory thread). The initial opening of the two older threads in April didn't get a quote as they were both placed under a 'super-capital ships' heading; I didn't feel a quote was really needed to further express the topic of the threads.

There are no Homeworld-style motherships in Sins that build ships or structures. Sins is NOT Homeworld.  Sins does have carrier-class ships which are motherships to their fighter/bomber squadrons. Hopefully that clears things up a bit.

There are, however, more windows in Beta 2.

That's no moon...

Which I will cheer about later.

I totally agree with that. But it could easily be solved by giving capships more staying power and making them more expensive.

Sins is NOT Homeworld

you could do a hell of a lot worse.
Sins was described as "homeworld on a far vaster scale". while I dont expect you guys to rigidly adhere to the words, I would expect that the basic RTS style combat would remain intact, currently it really hasnt. right now its all about sending forces into the grinder, unfortunately that contains NO macrostrategy, something big ships would change.

to be clear; dismissing this idea so very readily is a mistake, I think it could cost you a good percentage of your customers. I havent even seen a clear reason as to why its not enthusiastically incorporated.

and then you have a game-wrending power gap. no, that wont work.

I am hoping for faster travel and more epic battles, with reinforcing fleets that arrive just in time to save the day...

And the LRMF (thats long range missile frigate) shooting Multianna back to the stoneage!
