GamersInfo.net Interview

Weeeeeee *says Multianna when reading the Interview*

Im confused and abit afraid the single player campaign will be bad..
Blair talks about that the campaign will be skirmish, and that battles aint scripted. That sounds good though.
As he also said, some of them have worked on Homeworld Cataclysm, then they must know about its great story.
What i mean is that, id really like a story tobe sucked into, like in cataclysm. As they find this virus and dont know what to do with it. And as they try to study it, every thing goes bad, part of your ship needs to be ejected, before the virus (the beast) will consume the entire mothership.
So maybe when you do something, like getting to a place in the game, it would trikker an event?
I just really hope, it will have some sort of story, not just in the beginning or the end, but also in the game.

Oh and i got the impression, when Blair talked about moveing his fleet and only 1 dreadnaught was being used. So are we going to see some sort of cap?
Though i remember Blair said long ago, something about a cap for ships, but not sure what the conclusion was..

oh and Blair said, they were 3 who grew up toghter. One is the brother Craig, so is the 3rd person Tristan?

Great read

We will do our best to immerse you in the story

We are testing a population cap  in the next beta for a variety of reasons that became apparent from the last beta. Its similiar, but not quite, to the implementation inCompany of Heroes. It may or may not stay. Its super super easy to mod out if you don't like it but we ask that people test it out for a bit. (I will write on the forums how to remove it once beta2 is out.)

The other thing that is changing w/r to the dreadnaught comment is capitalships were never meant to be plentiful - we only allowed that in the beta1 because there weren't many ship types to play with. Capital ships were intended to be rather rare and we will be testing this in beta2.

Myself, Craig (brother) and Paul Schuegraf grew up together in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Nice, sounds good, like the idea of lessor capitalships, so they become more special.
So does this mean that the capitalships, will be stronger then we have seen in beta1?

Paul Schuegraf? is he the one, who makes the lovely ingame music?
i know ive been told before, what he does, but cant remember lol

Yes, Multi, Capitalships should be quite a bit more powerful and if they aren't powerful enough please let us know. They are supposed to be the mega/uber/l33t units. Very few, but very good.

Edit: they aren't actually supposed to be super powerful until they level up a bit.

I like this idea, but now theres a piece missing in balance again. now instead of it being the ships beyond the capital ships, its the missing intermediate.
two types of ships (very small and very big) doesnt do much to impress me. for me its the largest downfall of the game.

I think he's saying there should be an intermediary between teeny ships and big ships, to make it seem like a more fluid progression.

Also I like the details bleeding through about the campaign, even if it turns out to be the game's weakest point, it could still be fun!

I look forward to testing out a pop cap. As is the computers willingness to sit there endlessly churning out scout frigates quickly surpasses my willingness to do the same. Leaving me very outnumbered late game versus the hundreds of frigates the AI sends streaming from place to place.

Exactly, I don't know what function they would serve, but 'tis food for thought.

I should think that low level capital ships are the intermediate ships.

think of it like sand, you have your rocks, your pebbles and your sand.

the rocks are the big hitters, they weigh the most of the group. your pebbles soft out damage from the rocks, and the sand is like an endless sea of weak units meant to cushion out damage applied to your fleet.

big units are used to apply quick, heavy damage. they are highly defensive and bring certain flexability to your fleet. frigates do most of the damage, but its long and drawn out. they aren't defensive but rather survive due to sheer numbers (killing one wont kill too much firepower) dreadnoughts (the supposed intermediate) would be used to bring heavy damage to the frontline quicker than capships, but would be defensive so as not to be torn appart as easily as frigates.
You may find your missing piece in BETA 2

oh, that would be awesome !!!
