How do I change Icons for folders and apps in VISTA?

Hi Everyone, i am new to the forum.

okay, here is my problem - i have recently started using objectdock plus on my Vista Business system and realised that most icon packages come with .ico files (question1 - what are these for? dont you use the png for the objectdock?) so anyhow I thought i would use these cool icons to update applications and folders etc (as i have done easily in my xp computer), but in Vista it just doesnt work - i click on the folder, change icon, but it just does'nt work.. is there a special way to do it in vista? can someone pleeeease help me i have been trying for hours.

thanks in advance.

ObjectDock + is not intended to change Your system icons, it can only change the ones used by itself. You should go for IconPackager.

Thanks, but i dont mean using objectdock to change the icon, I am just asking has anyone changed their icons in Vista, or know how to do it, most of stardock programs do not work on vista yet, so iconpacker is out, but you dont need a program do change icons do you?

I know in XP you just click the folder or exe file, select properties, and select change icon... and you can select any file (.ico) in your computer to change it with... this has the same setup in Vista, but it just does'nt hold when you do the change..

can someone help please that understands what I mean.

Thanks, and thanks anyway JourneyMan.
