Sound fx don't work...any suggestions?

Er...dunno if this is a bug or not, but sound won't work on my system. The music is fine, but I don't get any sound fx; odd thing is I can click 'em in the folder and they play fine. There's a bit of text in the GalCiv SFX folder that says, "Pear sound files (wavs) must be 16 bit mono unsigned at 22 kHz." Anyone know if this has anything to do with it?

I uninstalled/reinstalled, installed Windows Media Player 9, diddled around with various settings...no dice. Anyone having a similar problem?

Otherwise, great game. Stardock = proof that slow 'n' steady wins the race.

Can all of you please run dxdiag, save the report and send it to me along with your debug.err files? Thanks.

I had this exact problem and found a solution, but it might not work for anyone else. I have one other game distributed by Stategy First and I knew I turned the sound off in that game. Figuring the sound was an obsure registry setting, I went into that game and turned the sound back on. Sure enough...the sound now works in GalCiv. :D The game I had that interacts with GalCiv is Disciples II: Dark Prophecy.

Hope this helps someone. :)
