Upgrade to DX pro

I have DX wich come in Object Desktop. My question is. Does stardock give some kind of discount if you upgrade to DX Pro? I hate to have to spend more money on DX when I have already bought object Desktop. You would think that Object Desktop wold come with the Pro version in all Object Desktop Program. Or At least give us a choice to buy Object Desktop or object Desktop pro.

I see no 'upgrade' option on the buy page
I found no discount coupon

kinda makes sense to me from my pov

one of the main pulls for pro is you can sell the gadgets
if the gadget is good and sells - you will get your investment back and then some
even if you only sell 80 at a $1 each, you made profit

not the same as an upgrade on enhancement software

If I remember right, there is a discount.

I dont even want to sell anything. All I want to do is make sidebar gadget that everyone can use. DX that comes with Object Desktop does not let me make a stand alone Sidebar Gadget. I made a weather Side bar gadget and someone who downloaded it said that he still needed to have Dx installed to use it. That stinks!
I love skinning and would love to make more sidebar gadgets so every one can use. not just DX owners. Why make a sidebar gadget if only dx owners can use it. Guess i will just keep on makeng DX stuff.

Stardock I hope you understand my point of veiw.

I tried an email to stardock and no response. I will give sale a shot.

I remember this being asked sometime ago and I think the answer was there isn't a discount.

Your questions makes sense but, also keep in mind that the Vista Gadget feature is actually part of a beta. Maybe they are working on a limited compiler for the sidebar feature? Or if it's possible maybe an online conversion service?

IMO it is worth the money because there isn't an easier development/deployment solution out there for creating stand-a-lone programs. Do what I did talk your girlfriend or a family member into buying it for you as a present!

I have tried that with my wife. She thinks that skinning is a wast of time. I just got lucky to renew my first year of Object Desktop

I just got a response from stardock Sales. They simply said NO DISCOUNT for Object Desktop Users.
What a load of crap!
I have standard DX installed in my computer witch comes with Object Desktop.
Why would Stardock not want to satisfy there insisting customers. To make a customer to pay for a program at full price when they have already paid for standard Program without A discount is crazy. Its just BAD CUSTOMER service to All Stardock users.

Stardock needs to get there Head out of there stubborn ---.
You can buy any program. Like lets say a screensaver maker program. Lets say Family screensaver maker but you would like to upgrade to corperet scrensaver maker. They will let you at least have you pay the difference between family and corperate. Or even better yet give a better discount than that. That is taking care of there customers.

I love Stardock programs. But customer satisfaction and how stardock treats there insisting customer greatly effect how i buy there products in the future.

I bought an Xbox 360 last year. MS won't give me a discount on an Elite. I just want to play games on it......

(See my point?)

But Xbox 360 is not a soft wear program. ITS A video console.

If you buy vista home premium and want upgrade you do get a discount. MS does care

That's because they offer an upgrade version.
And it's irrelevant wether it's software or hardware, business is business. Stardock imply nowhere that DX Pro is available with an upgrade discount.

I do understand that. But why not try to make you existing customer happy by offering a discount. I bet people would upgrade there for Stardock would make more $$$.

Hey, I understand your thinking and point of view but, I don't know of any "development" application that offers upgrade discounts?

A good example is also from Microsoft. I'm fairly knowledgeable in programming Access under the Professional Suite but, there is no discount to upgrade to the Developer's Edition which has a larger gap between the Suite Price and Developer price when compared to DX Pro.

I think DX Pro is designed for serious developers that want to sell their gadgets.  If they are serious enough about DX to take that step they should be willing to pay for the privilege and the extra development that Stardock has put into it.

As stated in the first reply, it can pay for itself very quickly if you do your job right.

All the versions of Vista are about the same too . . and people complain the same way.  The cool thing is that the market will decide whether the current marketing is a success or not and whether things will have to change.

Just in case You didn't hear about it (and in no way related to the DX Pro situation !) : With Access 2007 MS is giving away the extensions (already released) and the runtime (still to come) for free.

There are lots of companys out there that think in that stuborn way.

I will not buy Dx pro for full price. but let me pay the difference between dx and dx pro and then i would. there for stubborn company's would get the money they are losing. not offering a discount they wont see the money of those who are not willing to buy the same program twice.

Most people who are going to by DX pro are going to because there had in mind to sale there thing right from the beginning. I still do not want to sale anything. All i wanted to do is make a Stand alone vista sidebar gadget so all wincustomize community can use the sidebar gadgets without having to have DX installed. A vista sidebar gadget should only require that Vista side bar software is running.

I do understand both sides of this. Its just hard to understand why a company would not want to make more money by reaching out to those that have a standard software and not offer a discount to upgrade. I know there are a lot of people out there that would upgrade if they had some kind of discount. But wont because they do not want to have to by the same software with a little more added to it.

So, would I get the same discount on Object Desktop since I just *cough* bought the DX Pro version? If they tried to accommodate everyone then the vast majority of people would be overly confused by all the choices. The professional version is easily worth twice as much. Also, consider this IMO they could of made the Sidebar version purely as a feature for the Pro version only or make the version available as on option available upon renewal!

Good to hear. I'm still working in Access 97!
