Documentation of Techs for Ships

I haven't found any

Hello, first time posting on this board. I haven't found this information anywhere - documents, posts on the boards, etc.

Is there any place that discusses all the ship sizes, and which techs are required for each? For example, if I want to build a "Ranger" class ship then I need these five techs:

The closest I've found is the description of a given tech, where it indicates which ships can be build and mentions other techs that are also required for that ship. But I've found that to be inaccurate or incomplete at times, as well as an inconvenient way for me to self-document these details.

I'd appreciate any pointers to somewhere that has this already typed out.

Thanks,
DisneyDestroyer

PS - Stardock, would be nice to add more info reagarding this subject in future revs of the documentation.

Well, that information is quite useless, because you really need to design your own ships to do well. The pre-designed "core" ships will rarely have the right attack and defense types to combat your current enemy, and they'll essentially never fully utilize your current techs. The AI designs its own ships, so if you use the core ships, you're doomed in combat.

Agreed. Build you own ships.

DisneyDestroyer, look in GC2Ships.xml. It lists all the ships and which components are on each.

This is the entry for the Ranger:

[Ship Name="Ranger"]
[DisplayName]Ranger[/DisplayName]
[Model]Excalibur[/Model]
[Description]The galaxy is my playground.[/Description]
[Component]HugeHull0[/Component]
[Component]QuantumDriver0[/Component]
[Component]QuantumDriver0[/Component]
[Component]QuantumDriver0[/Component]
[Component]QuantumDriver0[/Component]
[Component]QuantumDriver0[/Component]
[Component]QuantumDriver0[/Component]
[Component]Kanvium3[/Component]
[Component]Kanvium3[/Component]
[Component]Kanvium3[/Component]
[Component]Sensors0[/Component]
[Component]GeneralSupport[/Component]
[/Ship]

As has already been said, design your own. On top of the sheer ineffectiveness of the core ships, designing your own is simply way, way too much fun.

That's what I'm trying, the problem is that I can't make any ships will larger than "Medium" Hull Size, even though I have researched the entire Hull tree. Am I missing something?

Are you creating new ships, or upgrading old ones? If you create new designs, the first panel should be giving you a big list of all the hull types you've researched.

There's no way you shouldn't be able to build large and huge hulls when you've got the appropriate techs.

Yeah, new ships from scratch in the shipyard. That's why I'm wondering if there are any additional requirements to make the ship - a specific level of life support or sensors, for example? Almost all of the default ships seems to have these installed except the Phoenix...

No. To build a ship with a medium hull, you need ONLY medium hull tech. To build a large ship, the large hull tech. For huge ones, the massive hull tech. You don't need anything else. You should be able to build blank ships from scratch using it.

I'd double check to make sure that you have the large scale and massive scale building techs.

Also check that you didn't accidentally hit the button to display only medium hulls. There are several tabs in the designer when choosing the base hull.

Hey, I'm new, but if he doesn't have enough LOGISTICS then you cannot build large ships even with the other techs researched? Just an idea...

Managed to figure it out, thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure, I think I only had the medium ones selected...

I think that the default logistics for everyone, with no techs or bonuses, still is sufficient to support one huge hull.

Its not, actually, but thats irrelevant. You can always have a single ship floating around... logistics is ONLY for putting a limit on how big a FLEET may get.
